EU getting rid of romaing charges in 2017

asim1999

The European Union has finally reached an agreement that will result in the end of roaming charges for those travelling within the 28 member countries of Europe, though this new plan doesn’t start until June 2017. The new agreement was made after several months of planning, the deal also means that companies within the EU can’t block or throttle online content.

By stopping companies from blocking or throttling online content or applications, it ensures that the internet remain open and all traffic treated the same. Initially this elimination of roaming charges was meant to come in to effect next year but it seems things got pushed back a bit.

head of the eventual elimination of roaming charges, in April next year operators will be dropping their roaming prices once again before being removed entirely. Then from 2017, those living in Europe will pay the same amount for data across the EU as they do at their home country.

You can read the whole press release, which includes the EU’s stance on Net Neutrality, HERE.

This is great, especially for people with unlimited text and data plans

And they have been reducing costs for a while https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Union_roaming_regulations

It's not bad now. Just huge cost of data.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA

not happening

The telecommunication companies will scream zeter and mordio prior to any of that happening

it was supposed to happen this year already but well it didnt

not gonna happen imo

it pretty much can't not happen. it's already set to happen, singed and everything. Prices on roaming are already at all time low you pretty much earn nothing from it.

yes it will. Roaming is annoying for both you and service providers. Prices on regular plans might increase, but roaming will be removed.

We already have no cost on taking calls in Latvia for example. Calling still has roaming, but you can just call and the person calls back for free.  And SMS messages are also free.

I don't pay for roaming since about 2014.

Oh and without roaming charges you can found a telecommunication company in country A but sell the sim cards in country B.

Due to price and taxe differences but no roaming charges :) win-win £€:)

Of course you don't have to invest in the local network either.

AldiTalk it's the telecommunication brand from the big discount store chain Aldi.

AldiTalk uses the sub carrier network MedionMobile which uses the networks e-plus and o² which are owned by Telefonica.

I don't agree even a little bit. Its not going to happen next week, but at some point in the future it will become economically favorable to provide free roaming. Remember, free roaming does not equal free access. Companies have worked together in the past they will do it further in the future.

There will be a countermeasure against people who roam permanently or try to buy data plans from other countrys where they are cheaper:

"The rules prevent abusive uses: for example, if the customer buys a SIM card in another EU country where domestic prices are lower to use it at home; or if the customer permanently stays abroad with a domestic subscription of his home country. This is not the usual use of roaming as the vast majority of Europeans experience it. These unusual behaviours are also called 'permanent roaming' and could have a negative impact on domestic prices, and ultimately on consumers. This is why there is a fair use safeguard. Once that limit is reached while being abroad, a small basic fee can be charged. This will be much lower than current caps (maximum prices that operators can charge consumers for roaming in the EU) and is likely to decrease even further. The Commission has been mandated to define the details of the fair use limit." -http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_MEMO-15-5275_en.htm

telecommunications companies are such pieces of shit everywhere it seems....

The top 5 communications and energy companies should be KILLED OFF by the government every 10 years and let others take their place

Cant have the same fucking company leeching money off of one scam for too long, IT gets too spoiled and thinks this is the norm; instead of being happy that IT could earn something substantial at all.

You have to look at a company as a living entity and treat it appropriately if its gets too spoiled and evil.
