Asus PB287Q @ 30Hz

Tylosion

Dear techers,

Today I got my Asus PB287Q. Of which I know uses DP 1.1 which locks it @ 30 Hz, I immediately set this to DP 1.2 but it's still running @ 30 Hz! For now I'm using a HD7990 (which has Mini-DP 1.2) instead of my 295X2 (A company lend it from me for their R9 300 serie line-up). I'm using a DP 1.2 compatible cable (https://www.afuture.nl//productview.php?productID=1923341) and ofcourse my monitor is 4K @ 60 Hz capable. On top of that I've installed Asus' drivers for this monitor (https://www.asus.com/support/Download/13/31/0/6/bEYaxjLkHf2PJuiM/41/).

Could someone please tell me why the f* my monitor is still capped @ 30 Hz!?

Thanks!

Wauw, It was so EASY! I just had to go to AMD Catalyst and I fixed it there! Phew, not a problem after all.

Hmm, I'm getting some black screen here and there... They are coming more frequently by time... Also the GPU starts to make some... noise... Some tickering kind of noise...

Alright, so awkwardly enough the monitor works fine @ 30 Hz. But when I set it back to 60 Hz using AMD's Catalyst software it starts giving me black screens occasionaly for like 0,5 to 3 seconds on 5 to 10 seconds interval....... At which ... something (?) start making a strange... short circuit kind of noise... I seems to be coming from the buttons on the monitor, so that's the lower right corner of the screen...

I'm going to contact the supplier, something is not right. The monitor makes the buzzing noise.

Alright so the noise is coming from the audio cable into the monitor. Apparently audio cannot be transmitted through displayport.. which I find extremely weird... Isn't DP superior to HDMI?...

  • 3 weeks later...

The last two weeks the monitor has been tested by the supplier. They couldn't reproduce the same problems. I get it back and it all starts over, black screens ALL the time. Sometimes I see serious screen tears when just having some Chrome tabs open. I've updated AMD drivers to the 15.6 beta, it hasn't changed anything, not really a surprise to me though. After a while the screen started to function normally, but when turning it off and back on it start flickering again. Changing it back to 30 Hz and back to 60 Hz again also makes the black screen reappear. Strange thing, when I open the monitor's menu through it's onboard buttons, and it gets a black screen the menu is gone... So... While the supplier claims it's not the monitor malfunctioning, I'm not so sure...

Anyone knows what to do now?

Should I contact AMD? Should I contact ASUS?

Besides, the monitor also gives black screens on an MacBook Pro... What the hell is going on?...

Contact Asus and see if they can do something under warranty?

Although I do wonder what would happen if I had two of these, I don't think this is going to solve anything demetrij. Because it simply does not explain why my supplier was not able to reproduce the same problem.
