GPU for 6400x1080

ShadowTech

I am wanting to do a triple monitor 6400x1080p setup (16:9, 21:9, 16:9) but I don't know what graphics card would be best since I am running close to 4k. Or maybe a I need two cards in SLI or CrosFire? I want to do some gaming like Dirt 3, or other racing games, but the setup is mostly for productivity. Thanks in advance.

Is there a chance something a little less expensive would work like dual 970's?

if you want to use nvidia surround, you're gonna have a bad time.

And Eyefinity too, it just stretches the middle 21:9 to a 16:9.

My crossfired 7950s did... decent on older games such as portal 2, garrys mod, TF2, Spore ect. and I had 5 assorted 1280x1024 monitors for lack of a decent budget. It cant run skyrim on ultra though. I have 2 1600x1200 monitors (still have yet to purchase a monitor in my life) and skyrim still struggles. but the GUI is effed anyway, so... whatever. I would suggest something better than duel 7950s. unless you have a good motherboard and adequate cooling, a single card is much better.

I've read some articles that say recent Eyefinity drivers have fixed that on the desktop but some games still go to 3x 16:9.

For Nvidia Surround? No.

For gaming on one screen? Of course.

What about the R9 295X2 because Newegg has them at a little more than $600 right now? Or would just one R9 290X 8GB be enough?

Not sure. I haven't used an x2 card before. I would go ahead and try one card, the crossfire another if you need to. I have also heard that you can crossfire two different cards if they use the same processor architecture. not sure about an X2 card though.

im going to leave this here.

295X2 seems like a good option to me.

But ofc a dual 290X 8GB versions would be good aswell.

It's just that right now I would be spending an extra $200 to CrossFire it later as opposed to getting the 295X2

I didnt know if you can crossfire another card with a 295X2. AMD cards crossfire over the PCIe lanes now... I think. I havent upgraded anything in forever lol. still gaming on 4:3 monitors xD
