SuperNOVA NEX 750W G1 good PSU?

WhiteSkyMage

hey,

I got that PSU from EVGA and for now it's doing a great job(specs in my sig). I got it just so I can put 2 Pascal cards in (when they come out). Did I make the right choice (got it for $95)? And yes it's gold certified...

If you are to recommend me one, which one would it be?

It's a good PSU. The G2 version is a fair bit better though. Still, not worth changing or anything.

What's the difference? The G2 wasn't in stock, and costed $20 more last winter, still on sale though...

Buy the G2. Even though I have the G1 and it hasn't failed me yet, it is a Tier 3 PSU compared to the G1 which is considered a Tier 1 PSU.

Ok, but "Tier" doesn't tell me anything. What's better about it? Is it capacitors? Efficiency? Cooling? Eco mode?

Efficiency I believe is slightly higher on the G2 but they are both 80+ Gold. The G2 is also quieter with better cooling.

But the most important difference is that the G2s voltage regulation is better, which ensures your system is stable and the G2 also has better all around reliability.

The NEX is made by CWT.... sorry the NEX is made by FSP

The G2 is made by Superflower.

The GS/PS is made by Seasonic.

doublechecking, hold on... done, was wrong about CWT.

It is the build quality that suffers, and cheaper capacitors and stuff... you can research it if you want.  You should be okay, the NEX is just not as reliable as the SF and Seasonic OEMs.

Well i guess it's too late to change now. I just wanted to know, in case of trouble, so I know which to get.

Will it be OK if I overclock my 980/ 5820K? This tells me it's not for that...

Yeah, if you are investing into a 980 and 5820K you DEFINITELY should get a G2 or GS. I build of that price bracket deserves an appropriate GPU.

Your NEX is in the Tier 3 (acceptable) column.  You should be okay, it is not terrible... it is just that other companies make them better.

Don't forget you are backed by an EVGA warranty.  EVGA has the best customer service in the tech industry.

If OP has already purchased it, why change it?  If it works, there is no good reason to spend more.

Alright. Ty guys. I will keep this one going. If it is "Acceptable" then it's probably going to hold up for 5 years or so...
