Will this discount dell do alright as HTPC

Clhnsn55

http://dellrefurbished.com/product/systems/desktops/cat61198/dell-optiplex-790-2gb-ram-250gb-hdd/si6710959

Total price is about $240

I already ordered the parts for a g3258 build with ssd.  I was going to use onboard graphics and see how it ran the purchase a gpu if necessary.  I posted in the build forum but didn't get any help other than someone telling me a g3258 couldn't (or similar) couldn't do uhd video playback.

This is 2nd gen i5 no ssd w gpu however no hdmi so I would need to do that asap.

only 2gb of ram which I will address asap as well.

the total on my build w/o gpu is $250

g3258, 2x2gb ballistix ram, kingston 60gb ssd, MSI H81M-E33, and logisys cs706bk w 440w psu,

I have a radeon hd5450 I could use as place holder until gpu upgrade.  I was going to leave it out of the new build but would need it for this to have hdmi.

Like I said in my build post htpc (xbmc or w7mc) with light gaming (free stuff like asphalt and kids games, maybe gamecube emulator)

That dell will be totally fine even a bit overkill any gpu with HDMI will do.

If you throw in a something like a 750 or 750ti and some ram you can game on it pretty decent.

That's what I figured.  I will return the G3258 build parts.  Maybe keep the ssd.

Even someonething like this would be great for an HTPC cause of form factor. http://dellrefurbished.com/product/systems/desktops/cat61198/dell-optiplex-960-4gb-ram-80gb-hdd/si6738364

Up to you sir.

More than enough. Hell, you could get an OptiPlex 760 with a decent Core 2 Duo and 5450 and that would probably be enough.
