Videocard Pins

DotoreN
Go to solution Solved by xAcid9,

You need both.

Ok so I have a PSU that has 1x6 pins available does that mean an r9 270x will work on it?

On the specs of the r9 270x it says "2x6pins" does this mean it also works on 1x6 pins psu or do i need to have 2, 6pins on the psu?

Thanks.

What psu. If the card needs 2 6pin pci-e connectors it needs 2 6pin pci-e connectors.

If your psu is powerful enough you can use molex adapters to get one more 6 pin though.

You need both connected to have it on so...

If youre PSU had 1x6 and 1x8 you can grab a 8p-6pin connector and plug both in.

I am basically selling my msi r9 270x to someone else, but on his psu he has 1x6 pin. On the specs of the r9 270x I can only see it has 2x6 pins.. but I can't tell whether you need both pins connected or not.

Thanks, I just found out I indeed need 2 6 pins connected to power the card and 1x6 will just not work.

Ah well, everyday you learn something, I never experienced an issue like this as I have a good psu :P
