Gtx 970 can it handle 144hz monitor name of monitor in desc

Go to solution Solved by Lotus,

Sometimes. Depends on the game. Also, the bigger problem is that right now no CPU can do 144hz on demanding games. On games like CS:GO and LoL sure, but not anything demanding.

Benq 24 3D LED XL2411Z monitor and the gpu is gtx geforce 970 4gb

A 970 will definitely pull over 60 at 1080.

definitely stay away from that cpu if you're looking to do high framerate gaming. the 8350 has much weaker cores than an intel from 4 years ago. you're much better off getting any haswell i5 even the 4440 will out perform the 8350. if you want to do some overclocking a great cpu motherboard combo is the 4690k and an ASUS Z97-A. the bios is great and my experiences playing around with the overclocking was great.

My rig:
CPU: i5 4690k 24/7 @4.4ghz (1.165v) Max 4.7ghz (1.325v) COOLER: NZXT Kraken X61 MOBO: Asus Z97-A   RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical   GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SSC   PSU: EVGA GS 650W   CASE: NZXT Phantom 530 HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB + WD Black 2TB

in games the 8350 is going to perform much worse than an i5, livestreaming may be a bit less of a hit on the 8350 but ya. and as far as the ram goes, my z97-A literally took 2 click to get my ram running at 2133 mhz. it was as simple as enabling the xmp profile.

and don't buy into amd's marketing, the 8350 is NOT a true 8 core cpu. it is a 4 module cpu which can handle 2 logical threads per module. the thing is that the two logical cores share resources. in the end each "core" on the 8350 is much weaker than an intel core and in gaming this will become painfully clear.

hell amd tried marketing the a10-7850k as a 12 core processor.... 4 "cores" cpu, + 8 "cores" from the gpu. so again don't buy into marketing from amd.

also, yes the 8350 is clocked higher.... but no it isn't faster because of it, the i5 can do more per ghz than the 8350, and you can easily overclock both to 4.5 ghz where the i5 will simply run circles around the 8350.

if you already have your motherboard, i'd try and return it. also NEVER buy components like motherboards, cpus, memory, graphics cards or hard drives without a way to test them as soon as you get them. buying them piecemeal like this is just asking to get stuck with a DOA component.

Ok but since im getting 1886 ram like how much lifetime does it loose or is that temp wise?

i love amd. this intel rig i have now is literally the first intel rig i've ever had. no i'm not fanboying. i just can't stay blind to amd's lack of performance in the cpu market any more. the fx line has been abandoned by amd. completely. the 8350 is as good as it is going to get until excavator runs its course. hopefully amd is going to use this time to start designing their next performance cpu and put a lot of work into it. i'd love to see them come back strong.

simple fact is that the 8350 couldn't beat a sandy bridge i5 in gaming. and only in VERY heavy multi-threaded applications (like full blown rendering and encoding) could it match the i7. but those situations are rare. sandy bridge is 4 years old now. intel has released ivy bridge, haswell and devil's canyon since then. the 4690k is a great cpu. don't be afraid to overclock it, you should be able to hit 4.5 ghz with a hyper 212 evo with ease at around 1.25 volts. especially if you get a good board. i'd recommend the z97-a board. it has a great bios, and overclocking on it is pretty simple. for most things the auto settings are good enough. the only things you need to set are the multipliers for the cores, and the voltages. you can even leave turbo core on to have your cpu run normally, slowing down to 800 mhz when not being used and turboing up to 4.5 ghz when needed. and the adaptive voltage setting will ramp the voltages up and down as needed. i ran into no issues using these settings and they were incredibly easy to use. if you do go the 4690k and z97-a route, i'd recommend giving it a shot. stress test with aida 64 for hours on end to ensure stability. prime95 is good for short term stability but ramps up the heat to unrealistic levels.

ram has nothing to do with the cpu life time. ram lifetime at 1866 mhz should be just fine if it is rated for 1866 (meaning you don't need to overclock it)

as far as the cpu life with overclocking goes, keep the temps reasonable and the voltage below 1.3 and you'll be fine. i'd recommend keeping the voltage below 1.25 to be safe.

glad to help :)

you'll be happy with the i5 i'm sure. i was blown away by how snappy it was myself.

edit:

also keep in mind that intels run a bit hotter than amd. which is ok. if you overclock you'll probably end up running close to 80 degrees.
