Linux Customizations

Hello guys!

 

I was curious what themes you guys use (This can be icons, cursors, backgrounds, settings etc etc) and would like to see some suggestions, too. For me I'm currently using the Nitrux icon pack  + Dorian Theme + Azenis Cursor via Unity Tweak Tool with a blue background and customized Conky. I was using Numix icons before because I loved them but I wanted something darker. Still haven't really found that yet. Maybe you guys have some for me to steal. ;)

 

*Oh, and the creator of Nitrux has some other cool icon packs if you guys want to check it out.

 

Anyways, looking forward to seeing how you guys have customized your system (pics aren't required but it would be awesome!) and of course any and all suggestions! B)

I like that dock. Is it compatible with KDE/Kubuntu?

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

Quoting the only explanation I could find:

The second pic is XFCE which comes pre-installed on Xubuntu. To get it to look that that you'd apply a flat GTK theme like this and icon set like this this . There's also a program called conky to display the weather, which could be set up relatively easily.

Kubuntu is just Ubuntu using KDE instead of Unity or XFCE. It should be compatible yes.

@Albatross i am having issues with replicating the first one @Jade posted from unix porn,my dock dosen't blend in.Do you know a fix maybe ? 

 

Never used docks outside of OSes that shipped with it but I can try to help. Are you using Plank?

And by "blend in" you mean transparent behind the buttons, correct?

I switched back to Windows a little bit ago for game support. I've been working on my tray tool for the community ever since. I may jump back to Linux with the release of Ubuntu 15.04 and just VM Windows for my coding (VirtualBox 5.0 is quite good).

Yeah transparent behind the dock.Must blend in,also i have no idea how to remove the change the upper task bar from application manager written in words to,just the icon.

I'm pretty sure it is a theme that ships with Plank-Themer. Let me install it really quick on my machine and get back to you. :)

Two ways. If you just have Plank installed, then download this theme:

Extract, rename to "Transparent" and move to this location "/home/ysmir/.local/share/plank/themes". Next open up the Terminal and type the following:

nano ~/.config/plank/dock1/settings

Here you edit the "Default" to the name of your theme. Save it. And then bam, you are done.

 

However you can install Plank-Themer, restart computer/log out-back in and then right click the dock's pinned "Plank" icon, click "Preferences" and then in the theme drop box there is a theme called "Transparent" or "Transparent4Real". Two different kinds of transparency but still transparency. And then there ya go! I would recommend this method.

 

As for the top statusbar being transparent you can achieve this via Unity-Tweak-Tool via the "Panel" option. It is under the Opaque options. Or you can try CCSM (open Ubuntu Software Center and look for "CompizConfig Settings Manager") or dconf editor to alter the transparency.  Just be sure you set the transparency to work "based on theme" or it will be transparent of a different color.

 

The best method I have found is Compiz. So I suggest you use that. If you decide to, open it, click "Ubuntu Unity Plugin" and then set Panel Opacity to "0.0000". Now because there is a bug in the latest Ubuntu it won't work all the way so you got to then select "Background Color" and change the opacity to 5 or so @ #000000. Press enter and then okay, and then the top panel bar should be 100% or 99.9% transparent.

 

Example of output using one of the earlier wallpapers:

I figured it out,instead of going the long way,i simply had to turn the appearance to 0 in panel prefrences. :) thanks for the help tough.

Can you link me the wallpaper maybe ?
