Pc Troubles

nightmare_Vg

I recently built my friend a computer and found that when I installed windows it took 5-7 seconds to open chrome after everything had installed including all drivers and windows updates, windows was also slow and his network adapter would constantly disconnect and reconnect, I re installed windows 2 more times to have the same issues, My suspicion is that the hard drive is malfunctioning since I had bought it a year ago and left it laying around (Maybe I set it down to hard who knows) any ideas

Gigabyte 970A-UD3P
Corsair CX 600 Builder
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB ram 1600 mhz
MSI GTX 970

Seagate Barracuda 1tb 7200 rpm

His network adapter disconnecting sounds like a driver issue within itself. Does the thing happen to be USB? Download the software for it and make sure that it's never set to go into power-saving mode.

Also, 5-7 seconds to open Chrome on a HDD if you don't leave in running in the background by default sounds about right.

But should windows be lagging? It takes many seconds to open control panel and ive seen many other computers with mechanical hdds open chrome faster

You've probably seen it with people who have few extensions and leave Chrome running in the background (go to Google Drive in Chrome to see what I mean). It opens super fast even on a hard drive.

Control panel opens in just under two seconds on my SSD. Dunno how long you mean by "a few seconds." A HDD will be slower of course.

Usually there's software that comes with it. Again, is it USB or PCI?

I mean, it might be the hard drive, ya. If you've fresh installed Windows twice then that isn't helping the lifespan of it sadly.

Also, what is the exact wifi dongle? I say install the software, I do mean software. Software and drivers are different and most, if not all, dongles will have both.

Update the BIOS. Perhaps the CPU is running at a really low clock speed.

I doubt it is an outdated BIOS issue. I think back then you had to update your BIOS on 970 chipsets to install FM3+ Chipsets. From what I see, I Believe it is an faulty drive. If your network adapter is constantly disconnecting, you might want to check the adapter. Also check and see if your drive is at 100% usage with Task Manager.
