Get Compressed 5.1 Through R7 260X

Hey all, I BUILT MY FIRST PC, awww yeh hehe :P

I just want to know if you people would think this would work.
Can I transmit 5.1 Compressed Audio through hdmi to a hdmi splitter, then plug the splitter into hdmi audio extractor so it splits it into a hdmi and optical and then run the optical to my HTiB to get the surround sound for games.

Its a bit complicated but at the moment i only have 1 optical port available on my HTiB so this was the best i could think of :P

Thankyou all for your help <3

Could just use onboard audio?

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

if you have an AV receiver you can just use the HDMI passthrough by connecting your computer to the receiver, then the receiver to your monitor

the receiver will take the sound from the HDMI cable but still send the image to your monitor
