Lynnfield vs Haswell in Cinebench R15

Mew

Since I was bored, I decided to do some calculations to see how much faster Haswell is over Lynnfield. At the same clock speeds, Haswell is 35% faster than lynnfield (35% higher IPC). Haswell achieved 139 in the single threaded test in Cinebench, while Lynnfield achieved 117 at 4.008ghz. Since I don't have the lynnfield system running anymore, I calculated at what frequency my 4690k had to run to get the same score as the lynnfield at 4ghz 1 core turbo. It turns out, Haswell at 3ghz will be as fast as Lynnfield at 4ghz. It seems that Cinebench's scores scale linearly with clock speed. Because of that, I calculated what Lynnfield would achieve at 3.5ghz- the result is 102.375. Because of this, Haswell is 35% faster than Lynnfield at the same clocks.

I did some further calculations. At the stock i5 750 turbos, the 1 core 3.2 (3192mhz) should achieve 93.1796, and the 4 core turbo 2.8 (2793mhz) is 81.53. Overall, Haswell at a fixed 3.5ghz is 70% faster than a stock i5 750 at the regular 4 core turbo of 2.8ghz.

Here are my results with more clarity:

Haswell:

3.5ghz 1 core- 139

3ghz 1 core- 119

Lynnfield:

4ghz 1 core-117

3.5ghz 1 core-102.375, so about 102

3.2ghz 1 core-93.1796, about 93

2.8ghz 1 core-81.53, about 82

Clock for clock (at same clock speeds):

Haswell is 35% faster

For same performance:

Haswell at 3ghz is just as fast as lynnfield at 4ghz.

You should do a gaming benchmark.

Spoiler

I would have, but my i5 750 and p55 board are packed away in storage right now since I upgraded a couple weeks ago. I just wanted to make this post as a psa for those that are thinking of upgrading from lynnfield, particularly the i5 750 to Haswell, the 4670k or 4690k.

That seems about right.

On my old 860 I got 129/661 at 4.2ghz.

Another way to put it is Lynnfield is 25% slower than Haswell. ;)
