want to move away from 5760x1080 i think

ExcitezR

so i have been looking at getting a 4k monitor but all the ips ons are a fair bit of money. the reason i was looking at 4k is because i do photography and want all the pixels but TN is a bit of a nono so is 1440p much of an upgrade from 1080. the main reason i was looking to upgrade is because 3 1080p screens are good for productivity but a pain to live with and there also a bit too small.

the monitors i have been looking at are

i like this the most i think

If you're getting rid of your 5760x1080 setup, I'll happily take the screens and mounting stuff (if you used any mounting stuff).

Sig under construction.

you could get a ips 4k monitor or 2 1440p monitors and game on one

actually, get a 4k monitor and flip 2 of your old screens vertical on either side

how many of them are there anyway, they are mostly 27" monitors

2015 just started and so did the 27" 4K IPS screens.

so what?

I know I know .... 34" sound so much bigger than 27", but the reallity is, those 21:9 screens are really only wider 27" 16:9 screens.

a 34" 21:9 will be miles more enjoyable than your old setup...    going 16:9 after your setup tho, dunno.... seems to me like that would give you a severe case of claustrophobia

but go this one:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-127-LG&groupid=17&catid=2907

Ye, its 1080p, sorry about that... but HEY its 75hz and has freesync (yes it is, the specs on that site are wrong) and it costs 500eur...

But if you need the resolution and dont care for freesync that much, id still say go for the AOC 21:9 you linked.

Or wait till q4, there should be 1440p 21:9s with freesync...

For photo work I hear IPS is the only way to go... ESPEICALLY if you are going big where the viewing angles can be more extreme than a regular desktop setup.

The only real way to compare desktop real-estate is to look at screen size and compensate for total pixel count

1080 = 2,073,600 p (base)

1440 = 3,686,400 p (+77%)

2160 = 8,294,400 p (four-times the pixels)

triple - 1080 = 6,220,800 p

now to measure USABLE desktop real-estate - you need to consider DPI

1080 @ 24 inches  = 91 DPI

Assuming you are able to work adequately at 91 DPI and you want to retain the same quality in your image then you need to go much bigger with your screen as the resolution increases.

1440 @ 32 inches = 91 DPI

2160 @ 48 inches = 91 DPI

If you go smaller than the above sizes you will not really be gaining truly usable space you will simply be "shrinking" the items you are looking at, this can be achieved with scaling alone while sacrificing on quality (pixels per element)

TLDR;

working space = resolution X inches (but I am sure you already knew this - I just like win+R; calc)
