Help choosing cpu air cooler

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

The first question and more important is if it 's going to fit the case and the second is if it is too much for an overclock of 4.5-4.6GHz.

All 3 coolers can fit.

The Dark Rock 3 is the only of the 3 that I would be confident in definitely being enough for 4.5-4.6ghz if the cpu is up for it. The other 2 would probably be enough for 4.4ghz+.

My cpu is 4690k on asus sabertooth z97 mark 2 and case is coolermaster N500.

I 'd like to ask your opinion about the three models of be quiet:

pure rock

shadow rock slim and

dark rock 3.

Would even pure rock handle an overclock at 4.5-4.6GHz or I need at least shadow rock slim and would all the three of them fit in this case which has maximum compatibility: CPU cooler height: 162mm / 6.4 inch?

Most Cpu coolers are able to manage decent overclocks so 4.5-4.6 is possible, But it all depends on your fan layout, Case, and ambient temperatures.

OK thank you for the reply.

Shadow rock slim is very good, too and at the same time cheaper.

So this means that with dark rock 3 it can go beyond this frequency???

It all depends on your CPU, outside temps, your case the way your fans are orientated or how many you have, your thermal past, etc.

OK

But as I understand from specs shadow rock slim is better than pure rock and dark rock is better than shadow rock slim.

If this is true I 'm between shadow rock and dark rock.

Can you answer if either shadow rock slim or dark rock 3 fit in my case for sure?

Here in Denmark the Noctua NH-D15 is slightly cheaper than the Dark Rock 3, and from online reviews, the NH-D15 should perform just a tiny bit better.

Just keep, the fan color of the Noctua, in mind

ASRock X99X Killer, i7 5820K @4Ghz, 16Gb Crucial DDR4, 2x 250Gb Samsung Evo, WD 2TB Black + 2TB Red, Corsair 750D, EVGA Supernova G2 850 & GTX 980 (ref.)

Exactly why I didn't go Noctua, that ugly shade of brown.

However, their products perform quite well and this is just nitpicking. For someone who doesn't mind the color-scheme, I'd recommend it.

They do have black/grey fans so I guess you could replase the stock one ^_^

Yes, I do suppose they have a black/dark-brown and grey scheme available for fan replacements.
