Tripod Recommendation Please

Nup

Hello ye people of the photo/video sub-thread!

So, I'm looking to buy a tripod for a birthday present for my dad. Specifically a lightweight one.

He usually shoots when we go on hikes in the mountains, so reducing the weight needed to carry would be a great help.

He uses a DSLR, so I presume mounting is standardised. If not I can find out the model number.

If you guys could let me know of any such tripods that'd be great!

Thanks in advance.

Bleigh!  Ever hear of AC series?

Ah, didn't think of that, thanks.

Budget is under 200 euro (150 gbp)

He shoot only stills, which vary from landscape to macros.

Since i wanted a tripod too, i wanted to ask a question and i don't feel like creating a new topic.
I was thinking to buy a cheap tripod like this one. ( it costs about 20 euros)  I want it only for high exposure pictures, but i was wondering if it's worth it to get one of the cheapest tripods...  Of course i don't need for professional use, but i don't want to break...
So... Do cheap tripods worth it?

Thank you!

If there are any more option let me know, :)

sorry i went for lunch haha

yeah monopods are a great idea for weight saving, since you are basically carrying 1/3 the amount of stuff, those tripods can also be made to stand completely on their own for long group selfies or exposure shots, sure not as stable as a full tripod but can easily be done

if he already has a tripod head from an existing tripod you could get some carbon fibre legs or just look for a lightweight aluminium tripod

but you want a decent head as well as light legs

I do see the benefit of that design, but I don't know how useful they are for rougher terrain. (I don't shoot at all :P

Also after talking with him a while back I think he wanted to avoid monopods.

No, no tripod heads at home. I would have thought that there would be a good few carbon fibre ones.

The head of the one you mentioned seemed to have a quick disconnect feature which would be very hand in his case, walking a bit before easily setting up and quickly taking a few shots.

better than tripods, because with the legs folded  away you can just perch the leg on a rock and shoot

setting up a 3 legged tripod on rough ground is 10x harder and takes much longer, depends if he wants something to rest the camera on when he shoots, or something to leave a camera set up in a stationary location

if you want just a  good tripod then this

I see, that does makes sense. Of the two the first does seem better for his application. Shoot n go type thing. It's also quite light, three times less stuff to carry, as you said.

Just to give you another option, there's also the Vanguard 263 AB, which has a ball head vs. the pan head of the Benro. Both are great tripods, but from my experience a ball head is more versatile for photography.

You might want to consider carbon fibre tripods to save on weight, maybe something like the Velbon E543D Carbon fibre tripod or the MeFoto Globetrotter range in carbon or aluminium.
