Algea or sediments in my res?

Hi guys,

I just randomly checked my pump and noticed something weird: There are some sort of sediments (or even algea?  :o ) on the top of my reservoir.

The coolant I am using is the Coollaboratory Liquid Coolant Pro Blue. As you can maybe see, it looks kinda blue-ish.

Also, I think it SHOULD have anitbacterial stuff in it, so it shouldn't be algea (their website sadly doesn't tell).

Then again, after using Qtips to extract some of the stuff, it looks like this:

Which is kinda green-ish, so more like algea, but still could just be compacted blue color.

I really do hope it's not algea, since it does absolutely not fit in my schedule at the moment.

Thanks in advance!

Looks like blue green algae to me. Do you have lights in your case and do they run all the time?

hmm...

but shouldn't all up-to-date coolants include anitbiotic chemicals?

I don't think these are algea, since I think Coollaboratory puts anti-bacterial solution in their liquid coolants. It's probably green due to the blue color as you said. When was the last time you cleanded it? It might just be debris from the loop, if you have cooper parts.

No

Antibiotic is the wrong term. That's referring to something like a virus or a bug not a plant. You need an anti algae. If your getting algae it could be the result of too much light in your system say you leave you system on 24/7 with the LEDs running.

do you have any sources about the anti-algea stuff?

well, the loop itself is 2 months old now, but before i had some other coolant in it and didnt clean it 100% i guess.

and yes, the block (and probably the radiator too), is made from copper

I read about the coolant on a forum, but I can't find it at the moment. It could be two things, either the copper or the coloring of the coolant. If it's the copper you could have to disassemble the whole loop, clean it and put a solution of some kind to help you in advance. But it could also be the dye, next time but the colored tubing instead of colored coolant.

i dont think its copper. it could be coolant residue. the stuff ive used is swiftechs coolant.

http://www.swiftech.com/Hydrx-PM2coolant.aspx

i didnt have a problem with it.

if it is blue green aglae, it should have a organic smell to it. so stick yer nose in it.

Every reservoir will have watermarks where the surface of the water was, its just residue from the coolant. You could mix it back into your coolant with no issues.

An every day example of this is when you get rings in a coffee/tea mug when the fluid level stays there for a while.

And your coolant does contain biocide and anti-corrosive.

thank you very much, but again, do you have sources about it containing biocide?

The coolant contains ethyl glycol which has antimicrobial properties. Not an outright biocide like PTNuke but it will work. If you are really worried consider dropping a .999 pure silver coil in your reservoir. However, you shouldn't really add the kill coil if you already have biocide as it can cause the biocide and silver to react.
