Origin codes and gifting

Its been awhile since I have bought an entire game on Origin, I know there is no gift option but is it possible to buy a game I already own and then give the code to my friend or will Origin have already activated the automatically for my account?

Is it just me or is Grammar slowly becoming extinct on LTT?

In my experience, the game has always been paired with your account when you buy it.  You would have to buy the code from a 3rd party site and give it to your friend.
