I was thinking of upgrading from my MSI 660TI PE (http://www.frys.com/product/7281653?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG), and thinking about upgrading to a GTX 970; i'm sure this will be enough, and atm i

hunger for only a 1440p resolution, or 2560x1080 21:9 monitor, but will i be able to run these resolutions maxed out, or at least nearly?

Yes you can.  1440P max should be just about doable at 60FPS.
