Please help! Finally took apart Crossover monitor to check PCB

Jedicake

I know NOTHING about what they should look like or the parts on it. Is this normal? What is the brown goop stuff? and what is it on? http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g436/TehJedicake/monitorbrowngoop_zps3bcb339f.jpg

That brown "Goop" are probably only some kind of glue,

I would only worry if something stopped working.

Don't worry, that is just glue to keep the caps in place.

Wow. I totally thought the capacitors blown and that was residue, so the PCB is completely fine?

I took it apart because my power brick is having issues (or the monitor) I'll keep checking the PCB for anything out of the ordinary.

I think they glue them so the monitor doesn't coil whine or make buzzing noises.

Its glue to hold the capacitors in place. What the problem with your monitor?

Those are total crap caps. If you can solder you might as well swap them with high quality caps (Nippon Chemi-con, Rubycon, Nichicon or other japanese caps)

Well, looked at both PCB's on the back, and I can see no issues whatsoever http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g436/TehJedicake/pcbfine2_zps92382496.jpg  http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g436/TehJedicake/pcbfine_zps859167df.jpg

Let's hope this means it's just my power adapter thingy that needs replaced!

Here's basically the issue, when my power adapter is just sitting on it's own, there is a green light on it, which means it's fine! However when I plug the circular connector into the monitor it makes a very low/subtle crackle sound, and the green light goes off (and monitor doesn't turn on)

The previous owner had it for 2 years, and I've had it working for 2 weeks completely fine, when I unhooked it (to hook an ergotech freedom arm on it) and hooked it back up the issue started.

That crackle you hear could be the arcs from a short circuit. There could be torn or exposed wire in the adapter. The power inidicator turns off maybe because adapter has a short circuit protection/OCP.  The monitor does not power on at all?

Correct, monitor does not power on, LED on monitor shows nothing (not red or blue)

So are you saying it's the adapter!? If you are I'm extremely relieved.

Guess there's one way to find out! I'll order a (hopefully higher quality) adapter/brick from Amazon. Thanks much, MeltingPoint

Make sure you get the same voltage rating with the same or higher amp rating adapter.
