many issues since moving to the 5960x

F12

starting with the system;

cpu:    Intel 5960x

mobo: Asus x99 deluxe

ram:   Corsair vengence 2800

gpu:   Nvidia gtx 670

psu:   ocz 500W

ssd:   840 evo

custom water loop

some of the issues ive had straight out of the box.

not booting due to memory

will fail to boot and needs to recover bios after restarts then freezes when it enters the uefi http://i.imgur.com/WzrmAqB.jpg

i havnt even tried overclocking as i dont want to chance voiding warranty

the issues seem to happen randomly but most restarts will need me to mem-ok / clear cmos / recover bios

considering i dont have any spare x99 motherboards, ddr4 ram or another cpu.. where do i start?

*edit  to clarify,  the 670 and psu are from my old system, i didnt buy them new.. their replacements are on their way

I think maybe the PSU is the problem? 500 Watts is probably not enough. I am not a expert I don't know. I am just guessing

yeah you should get a 600W or more PSU as a start, since you were able to spend $1.05K on a processor you can do that can't you?

1) why did you buy this system? Its completely unbalanced and bottlenecked

2) upgrade your PSU

when you say unbalanced? you mean the PSU right? Because it is no problem at all that he uses a old GTX 670 or something?

well it depends what he is using the PC for...

either way he overspent on x99 while underspending on the GPU, PSU, and probably other stuff like storage or whatever else.

Guys I don't think it is the PSU. That system cannot draw that much power when doing nothing. (A guy told me that).

He thinks that it is either the MB or the RAM. try clocking the RAM and the CPU lower and see if it solves it @F12

I agree. Even a 300W will handle just getting this thing to boot.

My vote goes to motherboard issue

I'm gonna say this is a PSU issue, with it probably being because it has a low 12V amprage, and the system needs more Amprage then it can give out.

Just a hunch though.

the psu and gpu were from my old system, their replacements are coming soon but i cant imagine the system at stock speeds can draw 500w.

if it was the psu wouldn't the whole system completely shut off?

once i get into windows the system seems stable but ill be running stress tests

Guy, nobody is really helping out here.

The screenshot shows he is running his memory on a 2133 clock. On purpose or?

My first guess would be a timing issue between memory and MB. Without knowing this system (nobody has extensive experience) I would first recommend to underclock the CPU. If this solves the problems, then that is a nice indication of a timing issue.

Second could be to boot the system with only 2 RAM modules. Check all pair combinations. You might have a faulty module.

Good luck.

Sometimes it does sometimes it just restarts, it depends on what is set in the BIOS on Asus boards, I know for my system I have it set to immedetly Reboot.

I have seen a 750W PSU not be enough for a System just due to the 12V amp rating on the PSU.

Yes, and he wrote: Corsair vengence 2800

According http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/6626/corsair-vengeance-lpx-16gb-ddr4-2800-quad-channel-memory-kit-review/index.html that is 16-18-18-36-2T so from a timing perspective this is extremely on the low side.

I've seen this before when they introduced DDR.

Yes but to get to the rated 2800mhz speed he would need to enable XMP which would end up overclocking his system which he doesn't want to do yet.

I see. Wow, didnt expect this to be so limited. Had to check the ASUS specs: 8 x DIMM, max. 64GB, DDR4 3000(O.C.)/2800(O.C.)/2666(O.C.)/2400(O.C.)/2133 MHz

Guess they don't build those MBs anymore like they did in the stoneage ;-)

Yeah If I rememeber correctly the XMP mode is tied to the BCLK now with DDR4.

OP, I'm experiencing the same issues.

i7 5930k

Asus X99 Deluxe

Corsair 1200W

32 GB RAM

When entering the BIOS it randomly freezes up on boot and hangs/shuts down.

If I get to Windows, my system works completely fine. Hopefully, our boards are not defective and this can be rectified by a BIOS update.

You can get a cheap energy-meter to plug into the wall. Then you can see how much watts your drawing from the wall. I doubt the problem is the psu though...
