GTX 780 or GTX 780 Ti

Go to solution Solved by Totallycasual,

I have the Asus GTX 780 direct cuii OC and i can tell you that at 1080 there isn't a game it hasn't been able to handle on ultra, if you're only playing at that resolution the 780 is a great option and will serve you well  :)

Quick question, should I get the MSI GTX 780TI Gaming for $699.99 or save ~$250 and get the ASUS GTX 780-DC2OC for $455.99? Thanks

Resolution? Purpose? Amount of displays?

The 780 should do you well. Unless you have more than one display or want to play at a high resolution. (Really, the 780 can do that too)

In my opinion the 780ti isn't worth that extra money, but.  It is faster, so depends on whether you want the best value for your money or the fastest thing for your money.

If 1080p, a GTX 770 is enough.

The 780Ti isn't worth it IMO. It costs $250 for some more CUDA cores and other specs. That means it's $250 for several more FPS.

Thanks guys. The card will just be running an LG 29UM65 (2560x1080).  So I think I'll go for the lesser card.

Sigh 2560x1080 = 2764800 pixels .... 1920x1080 = 2073600 pixels

Not really for new games ... Plus it's Vram bottle necked. Plus it's not full HD 1080P it's HD+ 2560x1080. 770 wont cut it well enough as it's overpriced ... over hyped and underpowered for the price.

If you aren't going to do anything better with those extra $250 and you just have it hanging, then sure, get it!

If you still wanna get something and you don't own a gold mine, get the 780 and go SLI when you need it in, say, 2 years?

Gotta say that my GTX 770 is yet to fail me on Ultra (without useless SSAA 1024x) on most games I play... No 100FPS but 60 is enough for my 60Hz vintage monitor...

I am just talking about regular 1920x1080p...

And, if you don't have 500$, you can spend $300 on a good card such as the 770 or, if you want, you could go GTX 770 SLI at $600 for probably a better performance than the 780Ti...

The 780 has a larger bandwidth if I'm not mistaken but it's expensive if you don't plan on pushing it right now or needing it to have a future proof rig.

Which is not the case, reason why he's going for a nice 780!

You can get faster AMD cards with more memory than the 770.

Extremely modded Skyrim, Crysis 3, Far Cry 3,  Witcher 2 Ubersampling. There are a lot of games that it can't max unless you don't want 60fps.

He didn't ask about AMD

He didn't say no AMD either. Perhaps he does not know there are better options out there than just nvidia.
