So i just got a new motherboard the GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-Gaming GT and a 4790k and the temps are jumping around on my processor. i have a h60 and im getting a max temp in the 90's. i don't know if its a temperature sensor that's bad because i haven't lagged at all or crashed and also the TMPIN2 temp says 128 and never changes.

128 is a 16x multiplier, probably 128 is the max and its broken.

Are you reading the temps in the BIOS or using a software utility? If the latter what software are you using to read the thermal sensors?

in bios it says around 62 degrees and im using HWmonitor.

HWmonitor has been known not to give accurate readouts sometimes.

just tried and the same thing happened.

Then it is most likely a bad thermal sensor or just the motherboard reporting the temperatures strangely. 

 

The only thing I can think of at the moment is to make sure that you have the latest UEFI(this used to be called BIOS) installed.

Yes, it occasionally happens. If you feel the need to RMA the CPU then do so.
