DSLR flash speedlite options

I'm deciding to get a speedlite for my Nikon D5100, but i can't choose which ones are the best in terms of just using it indoors in a party or at any event. I figured that i might aswell get one as the standard flash that is attached to the camera is too weak for my liking when taking pictures with a zoom lens (55-300mm), and the lens appears in the photo because of the flash.

Note though, i don't want an official nikon speedlite as they're too expensive, there are third party ones made by neewer and meike etc. but i can't decide which one to buy. Preferably, i would like it to cost under £30. As i've been looking and most of them are under £50.

Thanks in advance,

Sean.

Lol was also looking at this.. highly regarded. I recommend doing research with your camera.

is that manual or does it have TTL?

Seems its manual TTL seems to cost a bit more.

which is better for just indoor event photos? TTL or manual?

manual sounds harder to do as you gotta correctly set every setting for it to be a good photo. i may be wrong though, kinda new to these speedlites/flashguns.

If you aren't up to speed with flashes, using manual can be a PITA. I mean, I used grey cards and test fire a few times while hooked up to my laptop to ensure the light is right, and then I start using it. Plus you're gonna need a decent flash meter just to get proper manual settings.

TTL lens is the best purchase. Has everything you need and most have very robust auto modes.
