graphics driver stopped responding and has recovered

Saaq

So whenever i play some games after like 1 hour of gaming the game just freezes and i have to alt+tab and then i get "graphics driver stopped responding and has recovered" the weird things is that i can play hours of CSGO but if i play any other game it most likely will freeze. I have checked and i do have the latest nvidia drivers so that should not be the problem i guess. Do you guys have any idea what it might be?

Setup:

i5 4690k

asus z97-a

msi gtx 660

8GB ram

If you are talking about Nvidia 340.43 driver that shit is unstable in most rigs and it hates GPU OCs, for some ungodly reason it sets your GPU core and voltage at 0000. I personally feel it killed my 660Ti last month.

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

I am experiencing the same thing expect it does it when its not underload.

I am currently going through the RMA process.

I suggest you talk to Nvidia and the manufacturer of the card.

You should be able to. Most graphics cards have a 3 year warranty but you need to check that.

Before any of that I strongly suggest you to talk to nvidia and msi and get some technical support.

ah ok yeah, i just noticed that my store only has warranty for 1 year. and if i want to go through rma i need to send the card to the US (im from Sweden) and with the price of shipping and duty it will cheaper to just buy a new card.

Yeah ill talk to nvidia and see if they knows whats up first.

Same exact thing is happening to me, I am on the 340.43 driver also. But it happened under the 337.88 driver too.

I just noticed that Nvidia released a driver 340.52 today, maybe this will help some of the issues.

MSI should have a manufacturer's warranty. They should be able to pay for shipping if its defective.

OK I know the solution take you GPU out and use the onboard video.

In my case if I played a YouTube video and go fullscren the display would flicker twice. If the display still has issues then is most likely the motherboard. It could be a memory problem but that is unlikely.

I am RMAing my motherboard tomorrow.
