The Ideal powersupply?

Guest
Go to solution Solved by novasae,

Oh, I found one cx500 for cheap, going to check if it's modular....

 The CX-M series is semi-modular :)

So I will soon be doing a build which I will log, probably.

I've chosen all my components:

AMD FX 6300

4 or 8GB of RAM

MSI G43 AM3+ Motherboard

AMD Radeon HD 7950

500GB WD HDD...

Generic ASUS Optical Drive I have from this PC

Thermaltake V3 Black Edition Case...

And the only question remaining is the mythical and almighty Power Supply! If I don't chose the correct one it will explode my rig like a bomb!

From what I know about bombs they are bad stuff to deal with...

So I've been looking at the CX430W Power Supply since it is REALLY, REALLY CHEAP in Croatia, but it doesn't have necessary Power connectors for my Graphics card...

So I've spotted another cheap Power Supply Unit from Corsair which is VS550... I don't think It's modular but from some reviews I've seen from the Inter-webz I think it's good!

So someone needs to either agree with me or prove me wrong, also, (in)compatibilities with my HD 7950 ?

In any case, if this PSU isn't good (but i believe it's good because it's from Corsair) please give me a list of good, cheap and reliable Power Supplies... Freely comment on my other components as well!

EDIT: Cooler Masters are cheap, but some Tom's Hardware people say they have bad reputation and that they should be avoided... I went on Cooler Masters website and they say I need around 365 Watts of power...

500W is pretty good. So you can have a breathing room.

I'd go with the CX500, preferably M.

Also FSP (Fortron) isn't a bad brand and they have some cheap-ish units, also the EVGA 500B isn't a bad choice.

My rig: CPU: Intel core i5 4670K MoBo: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast 2x4GB 1600mhz CL9 GPU: EVGA GTX780 SC ACX SSD: ADATA Premier Pro SP900 256GBHDD: Western Digital RED 2TB PSU: FSP Aurum CM 750W Case: Cooler Master HAF XM OS: Windows 8 Pro

I recommend the Seasonic G550.  Its 80+ gold, semi modular, has decent sleeving and its got a 5 year warranty :D

I find it to be an awesome power supply, then again.  Cooler master seems to be a pretty rocking choice too.  So does Corsair, but these days I would go for an 80+ gold as 80+ gold I feel is becoming much more of a mainstream thing, that you can get on all rigs and pretty much every budget (unless its a really really low budget)

Just to let you know, shops don't sell EVGA's stuff here in Croatia, I've looked into xfx power supplies, now I'm looking at Seasonic

o brate!

that might be true what you read on tom's h/w

but V models are just rebranded seasonics, so can't go wrong with that

and if you look for reviews of V series, you'll see just positive stuff

so i'd recommend CM V series, maybe cuz i have one too and it's awesome :D

where do you buy stuff tho?

Nonsense. The HX series is just a non modular version. It is every bit as good.

XFX, Antec, and Seasonic are good choices for brands of power supplies. The Seasonic G550, XFX Core/Black/XTR/XXX series 550W, and the Antec Truepower Classic 550W are good choices.

Reading further into the reviews of the Corsair VS550... People say that this PSU uses bad caps and "that it's just your normal rebranded crappy PSU that should cost 15 dollars"...

Thought of going with XFX 450w, but I'm getting a Club3d 7970 instead of 7950... Overclocked 7950 uses 425 watts with a i7 920 and 32 gigs of RAM. I'm going for at least a 500w Power Supply. Still open for suggestions!

And BTW @fishy E i tebi :D

where are you buying parts?

looking at 2nd hand also?

dunno how's there in CRO, but i got stuff for cheap from Germany

dunno if you'd have to pay anything extra, i didn't coz it's EU (at least it's good for something :D)

but since you already are in EU, i think you can get it for cheap as well, just maybe bit more expensive to ship, i paid 10€ from GER to SLO

i bought most of my parts from hardwareversand and can confirm it's a good store that ships to many countries
