Fianlising My Overlclock

I overclocked my Intel Core i7 4770k to 4.5GHz yesterday and spent the rest of that day stress testing and making sure its 100% stable.

I Stress Tested using Intel Extreme Tuning Utlity for a total of 8 hours with no crashes

I got a ETU Benchmark score of 877 (Is that good or bad?)

Max temp came out at 79C (H100i Cooler)

Running OC at 1.26v

Is it safe to say that I'm stable?

not quite , I would test with IBT or Aida64 to be sure it doesnt throttle (monitor via extreme tuning utility)

If you want to be absolutely sure, run Aida64 and IBT as well. If it run all of these for 8+ hours, then you're golden.

Not bad at all, that is a very nice 24/7 Overclock, and temperatures aren't high considering that is a synthetic test run for 8 hours.  One thing to note, I have an i5-4670k @ 4.6Ghz and I could run Prime95(Manual voltage) for 2hrs+ @ 1.18v, but when I played BF4, I wasn't stable and had to push it to 1.20v, so what may be stable in one program, may not be stable in another.  Play some games, see how it fairs.  One test is not the end-all be-all.  CinebenchR15 if you run it 10 times in a row back to back, that is a nice quick and dirty test too.

You have a nice chip though, thats for sure, congratz!

Cheers pal! Battlfield put a downer on my last overclock attempt and I havent tried it on this one yet.. I'll see how it fairs tomorrow

its good for now. the more stress testing you do the  less stable it becomes. 8 hours is plenty.

Ya, BF4 is tricky.  You would think if an OC can run stable on Prime95, that BF4 would be a cakewalk.

They do, you just have to set voltage to manual

It's just effort. It's a sketchy process at the best of time so the less hastle the better

What're you talking about?  Any synthetic stress test that you run, you should be using manual voltage.  Its not a question of "effort?"  Its the way it is done.

I hope it's the best since it's made by Intel. You must be mistaking what I bolded for Prime 95. Prime 95 can overvolt resulting in too much voltage.

Again, I have a Haswell CPU and have used all 3 (Aida64, IBT and IETU) with great success.

k then you dont use it ,I HAD WAY TOO MUCH experience with my render is crashing in 4.5ghz 1.39v that is stable with intels crap and prime95 but not stable with ibt.

IBT>rest of the stressing apps out there.

The reason Linus and many others recommend to NOT use ibt and aida is because they are coded to specifically exceed the thermal limitations of your CPU. Basically heating it up and using more voltage than is possible to do with a normal stress test. This can damage the CPU and make you believe your cooling or voltage is insufficient, which in turn will make you believe you need to turn down your overclock. Basically ibt and aida mislead you to believe your CPU isn't stable, when really you are pushing it too far.
