Silent replacement fan recommendation for Cosair h40 + 3/4 pin question

Got a Cosair h40 for free, the fan is pants, amusing they would actually ship this jet engine on a water cooler, the fan is 3 pin and even on silent mode in bios there is no difference to normal. Which leads me to my next question, do fan profiles in bios only work with 4 pin (PWM?) fans? or do 4pin have even more control in the bios, like choice of rpm.

The cosair was too much so I stuck an old 120mm Molex fan on it instead and the temps are very similar and now I can hear the birds outside again, am I right in thinking 3 pin fans will ramp up if the cpu gets too hot? or is that only 4 pin fans. I guess the only disadvantage to using a molex fan is the fixed speed right, do people use temperature warning and fan fail modes in the bios, thought it was odd that they were disabled as default, any issues to be aware of having this feature on (Gigabyte board)

Any recommendations for as silent as possible 120mm fan for this h40, that isn't absurdly expensive like those lovely beige ones everyone creams about.

Thanks guys

What country you in? because the price of noiseblocker stuff massivly depends on the country.

UK

bout tenner for 120mm

Noctua Ind are about 21£, bit steep

Noise is my main concern, I have a non k 3770 so im limited to 4.1ghz so I don't need huge performance, just as quiet as possible for reasonable price. While i'm at it ill probably replace my 140mm fan as well, so looking for one of each.

Gentle Typhoon, Noise blocker E loop, or SP 120 quiet edition don't get the high performance if you buy sp120's.
