40gb of unusable space on macbook air

I re-installed os x mavericks and that fixed the problem.  it turns out that the drive was encrypted

Yes I'm using a MacBook Air.  I am currently running OS X 10.10 beta and there is 40gb of unusable space that i cant partition or add to my current partition on disk utility. can someone help me?

That's funny. Have you tried dragging down the bar saparating the partition from the empty space?

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

Could be system reserved, although 40GB seems like a lot.

i cant drag the slider down.  its non existant.  i also cant make a 2nd partition

Looks like its system reserved.  I would guess for the recovery partition and other recovery features in OSX.  Thats probably what it is.

its definantly not.  I was able to use it before.  all of a sudden it just dissapeared

try using a linux live cd and see if that in gparted can do something. If not there could be a bad chip on the ssd or a controller problem. I don't think the os is causing the problem.

If you try to install 10.9, will it let you use the 40GB?
