Poll: 2560 x 1440 vs 2560 x 1600

theawesomejman

That's definitely a 16:10 but that's a resolution significantly higher than 4K. What I want is something similar to what 1200p is in reference to 1080p.

well thats currently the closes 16:10 spec to 4K is my guess.

1600p is the deformed baby of 1080p...

DAM YOU AND YOUR SILLY ASPECT RATIOS!!! :(

It's wrong! :P But I guess its ok I mean 1600p seems like a workstaion resolution rather than a gaming one.

how is 1600p (2560x1600) a deformed baby of 1080p and 16:10 is a standard PC aspect ratio

This is why,

1024 x 576

1280 x 720 - This

1366 x 768

1600 x 900

1920 x 1080 - This

2560 x 1440 - This

Scale pretty well with most formats that are used.

1080p on XXXXx1600 is just screaming for black bars. (As I have exausted before, 16:10 is clearly suited for the workstation not gaming/movies)

Although it's closest to the "golden ratio" it is still beggin for scaling problems (I know most modern games are scalable with most resolutions) but I would rather 16:9/21:9 .

But I digress, the main point is XXXXx1600 is hidious on a personal level and that is why I am saying it's the deformed baby. Also you encouter a whirlwind of problems @ 16:10.

16:9 if anything is the deformed baby and was only chosen because it gets you the most realestate when viewing 4:3, 1.85:1, and 2.35:1. Only once it was in the homes did things get broadcast in that because people always wondered why they had black bars no matter what they watched. PC's has 16:10 before 16:9 even tried to enter the PC market. Mainstream consumers drove both 16:9 and HDMI into the PC spectrum with the 1080p craze, which i find funny because though they may have a 1080p TV they likely still dont have a 1080p computer.

16:10 resolutions are:

1280x800

1440x900

1680x1050 < very popular for first gen "gaming" LCD monitors

1920x1200

2560x1600

Also dont get me started about 1366x768 especially on 15in laptops.

I see your point but no matter how hard people try to push 16:10 it's never going to replace 16:9 as it is basically the standard for almost everything since it's cheaper to make and fills most resolutions that are available and just scales pretty well.

I guess overall it's personal preference, I used to work for graphics design and we had 16:10 monitors for as you say more monitor realestate then 1920x1200 > 2560x1600. But I would personally recommend 16:9 for gaming since it's what the industry standard is set for.

1920 x 1080 + 1440 x 800 is what I roll with at the current moment. One for gaming and one for browsing. Soon upgrading too 3860x2160.
