Is there anyway around this?

kaylexmorgana

Ignore all that garbage on my floor but I looked online and they even said not to do it but is there anyway to route a cable to a modem(as seen) AND to cable? I want it connected to my TiVo but it doesn't give me a signal, just internet.post-74148-0-68189600-1397788909_thumb.j

Yes, you can technically do that, just split the connection coming off the wall with that splitter and then go to the modem and the TiVo.

It isn't really reccomended that you do so though, as it may degrade the signal going into your modem further and cause problems.

The problems it would cause would relate to the power levels your modem is getting from the cable lines.

This could cause it to be unstable and lose its connection to your ISP. Not reduce speeds, necessarily.

I have seen this happen a decent amount on modems that are behind a bunch of splitters, remember there's the splitter(s) you have and potentially the ones on your street on the same circuit. Or in the apartment building you live in.

I didn't mean that as me thinking you lived in an apartment. Just warning you that the problems are compounded by apartment complexes and how many times signals are split.

EDIT: also, there's nothing wrong with living in an apartment, or a house, dirty or otherwise.
