NEW ASUS ROG Graphics Card: ASUS ROG Striker GTX 760 4GB Platinum

Guru3D review

So this is basically a ROG 760 with 4GB memory. The ROG label means it will be "exclusive", have great overclockability and "premium ROG features". This is for people who do not want to go balls to the walls and get a card in the "Matrix" series, but rather a mid-range GPU. It is ASUS' answer to the MSI 760 HAWK.

It has good memory chips, as Nordic Hardware found out when they overclocked the memory frequency to 8200MHz.

It comes preclocked at 1 085 MHz core clock, and 1150 boost clock. So it is basically a 770 at that point... To be honest, i don't really see where this product slides in (sorry ASUS)  But i will give them props for having the text on the backplate THE RIGHT FRIGGIN WAY AROUND. Seriously, HOW does nearly every backplate have text upside down?!?!?!?

The article states that other mid-range graphics cards will get the same ROG treatment. That might mean we can expect a R9 270X Striker?

They gave it a performance award, seeing as it costs way more than other 760s, but performed pretty good.

It costs 2 790 swedish kronor, or 434$

Why do we need 4GB memory on a 760? It will almost never make full use of it. Also, you might want to post a source so that we can read more about it.

Edit: ZOMG 500 posts :D

What's the point?

Asus release a 6GB 780TI or 780, now that would be worth the money.

A 770 or above would make sense, but a 760....

I guess the 4gb's kinda makes sence..

If your someone who does not want to spend lots of money to have high fidelity. You can spend less and get a 4gb version and still be able to rock a high resolution display (UHD / 4k)

Everyone have a cool signature. I don't, so I thought I would write something.

- Cool right?

gpu isnt strong enough to actually use the 4gb vram though. you would need atleast 2 in sli to have enough gpu muscle to make use of the 4gb vram. even a single 770 4gb cant make use of the full 4gb.. it barely touches 2.8gb most times

You may have the memory to rock a 4K display... but with a 760 will you have the throughput? Probably not...

I too am struggling to see how this fits into the RoG theme.  Maybe they are deciding to branch out to more budget orientated gamers.  But this it's strange that the 760 won't have the power to run 4K displays well.  Perhaps this is aimed at the likes of Skyrim modders etc who need the extra memory for texture packs as opposed to resolution scale.

You can certainly run 1 4k screen with a 760... No you will not go on and play ultra high fidelity, but you can certainly have a fine experience with lower settings at that resolution.

2gb's are not enough. 3gb's is proberly good enough. 4gb's, now your sure that won't be the bottle neck. Again, not for high fidelity... But tbh, that's kinda against the ROG brand, so it is a bit backwerds I agree...

yeah im not saying it cant be run cause i know it can.. im just saying the 760's gpu physically cant use a full 4gb of vram...

EVGA Has a 780 on the way. 6GB version. It will be eligible in their step-up program. So you would be able to step up from a regular EVGA 3GB 780 to a EVGA 780 6GB.

Yeah, your proberly right.. 3gb's would be enough for this.. But I'm still questioning ROG's branding of the card . . .

Could they be putting more memory on these midrange cards just so you get a boost when you SLI them together?

Pointless, it's cheaper and better to just get a GTX 770, at least in Sweden.

i dont get what they were thinking, i had a 4gb 770 a while back that physically could not make use of the 4gb vram regardless of whether or not the game wanted to.. soon as i switched to the 780 its pinned at 2.8gb all the time. the 770 i never saw go over 2.3gb in the exact same game and locations.. said game is skyrim with a huge amount of different texture mods. unless you sli this card the 4gb vram is literally useless.

SLI for this card may not be a bad idea either tbh.. But with this price, not so sure.. Proberly better to just get a 780 6gb from EVGA then..
