Pc turns on, have windows sounds but doesnt output image

victorluisgr

So, I was trying to solve this problem:

I called a friend who knows a little more about computers than me and he said that maybe the GPU drivers were corrupted, so I uninstalled them and when I restarted the computer... Black screen, but I hear discord calls, windows sound and etc. The computer was working properly yesterday with no problem at all.

(First, check the power cable on the GPU. Turn off the PC before you mess with it if the cable is loose or unplugged. If that wasn't the case please continue reading.) Plug the display cable into the motherboard and hit the reset button on your pc case. Your motherboard will detect that the display cable is plugged in and automatically switch to that display. Go into windows and reinstall the drivers for the GPU and restart.

This could also (maybe) be your monitor.  Turn it off and back on.

If its your GPU, I would physically remove it, then re-seat it back in its slot and try again.  After that its further troubleshooting.  Do you have an iGPU on that processor?

Yes I have a iGPU, and the monitor is alright.

You need to rule out that adapter from your first post before you can say the GPU is toast (or did you try all the other slots with diff cables?)

I just have a VGA cable with a display adaptor, the thing I tried was taking off the GPU and turning on the PC with tbe VGA on the motherboard and connecting again the GPU. Idk much about computers but I think that by uninstalling the nvidea graphics drivers i may made something malfunction.

What is your full computer specs?

1.) if iGPU (which is integrated graphics on the CPU) is disabled in the BIOS you wont be able to get a display from the mobo

2.) reset the BIOS by resetting the CMOS (google) to get the iGPU to be default display if you aren't getting an option to boot into BIOS on the screen through the motherboard VGA slot.

3.) If its just a VGA to DVI adapter (got pics?) its likely its not toast but before I could rule out GPU (without another system to test GPU in) I would try another port on the GPU (HDMI or DisplayPort) to my monitor.

4.) Get that GPU into another system to see if it will display

5.) If you remove drivers it will still have a display unless you crashed into a bootloop but you are hearing discord etc so that's not the problem.

So, the specs are:

Intel I5 4460

GTX 760

GA - H81M-H

GX II 550W

And that's an image of my adaptor

But the pc was working fine till today morning so, i dont think it is something with the adaptor or the cables

I'll look into that reset of the CMOS on google too, thanks.

Those adapters do go bad, but Im trying to rule out the least expensive things possible first.

If you have access to another computer you can put your GPU you, to see if it will boot with display in that PC will answer your question pretty quickly - but I wouldn't use the same display adapter either lol until that was ruled out

Well, I've resetted the CMOS and nothing. The cables and adaptor are fine because I tested on a old laptop that my grandma has. So I'm taking this pc to tech support.

Thanks for your time!

No worries - however you've likely isolated the issue down - which is the GPU - before taking it to someone and spending more money on a very aged GPU, do you have anyone who would let you install that GPU in their tower to see if it gets a display?

You will likely end up paying more for any repairs than buying, say, a new RX 560 4gb.
