Hi
I very rarely use internet forums and I'm not really in toiuch with the internet culture so please excuse my ignorance.
I'm looking to buy myself and my son(he's been doing really well in school ) , I personally really wanted to get us Iphone Xs/maxes since they seem really really nice both aesthethically and they seem to work really well (based on my short time w/ one at the apple store).Though I'd like to ask a few questions.
1.The Xs while beatiful seems quite fragile looking at the glass , how much abuse can the glass take? We don't throw our phones but again accidents do happen (my galaxy s7 died this way).Is there a sort of "screen protector" for the other parts of the phone?
2.We don't have mac computer in our house mostly Linux and Windows , is this going to cause issues?
3.Is there a general rule of thumb about how much storage is recommended?
4.Whats the difference beetwen Iphone Xr Xs and Xs max , assuming unlimited budget ( we'll have them oncontract) any reason to consider the XR?

Hi

Hi. welcome to the forums :)

1. The phone can take as much abuse as most others. The back glass on the iPhone Xs and Xs Max is about $500 for a repair, though, so keep that in mind. The Xr doesn't have that issue. Screen protectors for both the front and back exist.

2. You'll be fine with Windows. You can't run iTunes and the iCloud application on Linux however, so syncing your music library to it and getting photos off it have to be done in Windows.

3. Not really. You need to ask yourself what you'll use the device for. Do you want to record a ton of video and photos, or play very large games on it? Then 64GB or more should do nicely.

4. The Xr lacks the telephoto camera, has slower LTE and an LCD display rather than an OLED. It has way better battery life, though, so unless you consume a ton of media on your phone, it shouldn't be a deal breaker. The Xs and Xs Max are the flagships, obviously. Faster LTE, higher resolution displays, smaller screen bezels etc, but they are more fragile and more expensive.

I'd consider the Xr if you don't mind the difference in displays and want better battery life than the Xs and Xs Max can offer and you don't care about the camera.

Thanks for the warm welcome I know Iphones arent really the best value but I really wanted to get one for a pretty long while and well my contract was sadly still ongoing in 2017 when the X launched , guess its not a neccesarily bad thing since the Xs is refined based on what I've heard.

1. There are plenty of options for additional protection. Some even put tempered glass over their gorilla glass screens. I have an iphone 5 (still using it) with no case and no screen protector and it's survived a few falls and bumps.

2. There won't be any issues. You just can't connect to non-apple devices via bluetooth. There's already a Windows version for iTunes.

3. I guess at least 32gb?

4. If you have no limits, get the best.

No, it doesn't in real life use. You will get slighty better battery life than the Xs but you won't get anywhere near what apple promised.

you should look at what other companies are doing you might be surprised.

Anyways

1.- what any other phone can take, and yeah there are ways to protect it

2.- what do you mean by issues? It will work but the thing about the iPhones is having everything sincronized and having the full apple ecosystem is the way to go (still, by no means do I think buying all aple stuff to do that is a good investment anyway)

3.- No, it depends upon what you do

just keep in mind that there is no expandable storage.

Now if you ask me 128GB is the best deal for iPhone xr giving the price and for the others it really depends

4.- you can compare them in apple website but what I can tell you is:

iPhone xs and xs max are absolutely identical aside from the screen size and the battery

iPhone xr maintains most of the main stuff (same processor, same graphics card, same video capabilities, same connectivity) but does lack many premium features (that some may consider important) hence its much lower price:

WORSE SCREEN

much worse resolution and more antiquated panel (IPS as opposed to OLED)

3GB of ram instead of 4 (shouldn't make much of a difference)

WORSE WATER RESISTANCE (IP67 rather than IP68)

ONLY ONE MAIN CAMERA

uses aluminum construction instead of stainless steel

thicker phone and bigger bezels (so it doesn't feel nearly as premium as the other two)

and more

on the other hand you do get better battery runtimes and more color optiona

BOTTOM LINE IS:

if you want the fastest apple phone at a lower price, get the xr

if you want the best in a relatively small size get the xs

if yoy want the bigger screen and better battery life then get the xs max, it's only $100 for the same capacity

from a phone that's already ridiculously overpriced it isn't that much more money
