GT 1030 fan control

Casterina

I'm looking to get the Gigabyte or Palit GT 1030 for my HTPC but was wondering can the fans be controlled using MSI Afterburner so that I can set a fan curve of when the fan starts to spin?

yes.

Or just get a passive card. Or a CPU with a capable iGPU or maybe even an APU.

Most low end cards won't let you make them fanless at idle. If you want it fanless, just get a fanless 1030. Otherwise, most gpu fans are pretty quiet at idle, and you won't hear it.

Sorry forgot to mention, the CPU is AMD Phenom II X2 545 so the iGPU isn't that great.

I did consider the passive option but the only fans in the Silverstone Milo ML03 case is the CPU cooler (Scythe Big Shuriken 2) and the PSU but the CPU temp is around 25C and never see it above 30C.

The fanless ones should work fine, they really don't need that much airflow, and if your just watching videos, it won't make much heat. And if it gets too hot just put a quiet fan near it.
