To note, HU found that the 7800X3D isn't impacted by CL as much as other CPUs, so if folks can find CL32 cheaper they should feel fine about getting it.

Unless other testing has changed that opinion?

^^

It doesn't even make much of a difference on the non-X3D chips as CL30 and CL32 are such close values. The only reason I wouldn't recommend a CL36 kit as well if it was cheap is that you might end up with a CL36-44-44 kit and end up with potential compatibility issues.

I mean, if this is your only requirement, a B650M-HDV/M.2 and a ~$20 WiFi adapter like the Intel AX210 would be plenty and save you ~$50 on the motherboard.

That's a fine kit, if you want RGB that's the kit I would recommend.

hello, fellow forum users

i need some help choosing ddr5 memory for a ryzen 7 7800x3d

what is the difference between cl ratings? aand what speed should i go for?

It's one of the memory timings measured in clock cycles, lower is better for a given frequency.

The answer is pretty much always 6000 CL30 or CL32. Speeds higher than 6000MT/s don't work ideally out of the box on AM5, and CL30 and CL32 are the lowest latency kits you can find on DDR5. Plus, 6000 CL30/32 is usually some of the cheapest RAM you can find, so its not like you save much money by going for a slower kit anyway.

The one you picked is fine, though there are likely better options available. Where are you shopping for motherboards, how much were you looking to spend, and what features do you need?

I am using an Asus X670E-E motherboard with 64GB Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB ram without any problems at all.  The ram is CMT64GX5M2B6000C40.  So it isn't 30 or 32 but it works just fine.  This will be my final upgrade since I will be 70 years old in a few months so I went the extra mile on some of the parts.

Take care and good luck.
