Game crashes are probably driver related.

Download the update manually from Microsofts website and apply it there.

Microsoft is rolling out the 1809 update to people in waves, over a longer period of time. Microsoft advises that people wait until the update is sent to them.

Heuumm hang on. Windows 10 October 2018 (1809) has been re-released, but it is being release in waves, and being blocked on systems with specific software, or hardware installed due to issues that needs to either wait for the manufacture to update or Microsoft patch the issue before it can deliver the update. Forcing the update is not recommended. So, if you have BSODs, more (in your case) crashes, fail to update, features not working, or strange behavior, than it may be related to this.

What I'll mention here, for other readers, will get outdated real quick, as it is usually the case, but so far:

  • If you have iCloud (7.7.0.27) , you are blocked. This is because iCloud doesn't run correctly. It faces sync issues. Apple has identified the issue and is working on a fix (assuming it is not done already)

  • If you have, F5 VPN client application install, you are also blocked. This is because it the application is not working correctly after the update. F5 posted a workarround (https://support.f5.com/csp/article/K18448121). Microsoft is working on a fix.

  • Not blocking: Possible Mapped drives. If you have problem here is a workaround posted by Microsoft: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4471218
    Fix is coming by Microsoft.

  • If you have: Trend Micro OfficeScan or Trend Micro Worry-Free Business Security, you are also prevented from getting the update. Trend Micro is working on a fix, if the fix has not been released yet.

  • If you have Radeon HD2000 and HD4000 GPU, AMD cut support, and has issues. Microsoft is said to investigate the issue. No info if a fix will be made by Microsoft., or if AMD is willing to make an exception and provide a final update to those affected with the issue fixed.

Now it may look bad, but this is very common story for any Windows update, whether it was a Service Pack from the old days or now with Windows 10. This is one of the things that companies loves with Microsoft is this back and forth reporting on issues and they work on a fix, or provide assistance to its customers that are affected until an update arrives, by either the company or Microsoft. There is no surprise per se, and companies aren't left alone. Or companies can communicate with Microsoft to report a critical issue so that a block can be placed. Anyways, but this is all possible thanks to wave releases. Microsoft monitors upgrade process and program crash reports or issues.
