was wondering what is the best value CPU I can get for $200 or under?

in the case of my system it will be paired with a GTX 1050 ti  from ASUS

I currently have my eyes on a ryzen 7 1700

its for my own "Budget" gaming pc build, I don't care what platform its on since I have yet to choose the MOBO however I'm going with DDR4 Hyper x fury ram

For gaming I would go with the 8600k personally, but the 1700 isn't a bad choice either. It just has slower individual speeds with more cores, and most games can't really take advantage of big core counts yet. If you're gonna be multitasking, rendering clips of your gameplay, or steaming then 1700 for sure, but if not the extra $30 for the 8600k might be worth it.

Ryzen 5 2600 makes better sense as you can extract more single thread performance from those which is still more meaningful for gaming while still being multi-tasking capable by all means.

I thought it was a good find lol!

Yeah 2600 would probably be a better choice for your budget. Has slightly better performance for a big chunk less.

although some say it doesn't pair well with a 1050ti

and apparently Ryzen isn't well optimised for RAM (It performs a lot better with a higher speed)

It's fine with the 1050ti, but the 1050ti isn't too great. If you take the 2600 you can take the cash you saved and get a 1060 which has a pretty huge leap in higher performance. 6GB would be best, but 3GB is fine too

And yeah, RAM speed is pretty big for ryzen

thanks :D the problem with that though is the 1060 is very expensive rn, at least in the EU where I am, and I've already gone slightly over budget, going over any more is not really an option, plus I'm new to PC gaming and I doubt I'll require too much GPU power, most of the games I plan to play run smoothly on the 1050ti (according to some review videos on YT)

Ahhh ok, that makes sense. Well it can be a risk, but shopping for a used 960, or if you can get lucky a 970, could be worth your time for less than a new 1050 ti. From experience, most people are happy to come up with or showcase proof in person that it works. Just be skeptical of people who hesitate to give that proof, that is if you do go that route.

if you are ok with getting a used card, look for a 780Ti. it's basically an overclocked 1060 3gb in terms of performance.

although optimization in newer games might make the 1060 perform better.

Yeah good point, but through all my time shopping I only ever came across one that was rationally priced. So @domdoestech a 780 or 780 ti would also be a viable route, 780 being about equivalent to 970.

so just to conclude.. even though they are roughly the same price (for me at least)

I am better off with the Ryzen 5

Yep. The faster 6 cores in the 2600 surpass the performance of the 8 cores of the 1700, which higher individual core speed is especially better for gaming.
