how to upgrade hp pavillion p6000 for 200 bucks for gaming

nbonner

I have a hp pavilion p6631p it is like 8 years old and i dont have money to get a new computer so i was wondering what is the best way i can upgrade it to make it a gaming machine.

I would like to keep it 200 bucks and will by used parts. If anybody can help me and knows what the best upgrade would be it would realy help me

Well, do you know if the system has been changed since being purchased? If so, what changes have been made?

My apologies, I should have been more specific. Yes, hardware changes.

You could get a new psu, and something like a second hand 750 ti should be great for gaming. A ssd for daily use is always nice,  and another 4 gigs stick. Then you have something way better

hp pavilion p6631p

My first gaming PC was an HP Pavilion a730n with an HD 7770 1GB.

I had to also put in a better PSU.

@LukeSavenije has good suggestions.

I would get the 4GB stick before the SSD though.

I didn't realize you had already responded. You might use the reply button that way I get a notification telling me you have replied.

Processors: you have the Athlon II x4 635. 95W SKUs max on the stock cooler

  • AMD Phenom II X6 10xxT Six-Core (Thuban core)
  • AMD Phenom II X4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (Deneb core)
  • AMD Phenom II X3 7xx/7xxe Triple-Core (Heka core)
  • AMD Phenom II X2 5xx (Callisto core)
  • AMD Athlon X4 6xx/6xxe (Propus)
  • AMD Athlon X3 4xx/4xxe (Rana)
  • AMD Athlon X2 2xx/2xxe (Regor)
  • AMD Sempron Single Core 1xx (Sargas core)
Memory: you currently have 4GB, up to four DIMMs of DDR3, up to 1333 (PC3-10600), configurable to 16GB in dual channel.

You also have 4 SATA2 headers for internal drives, so you could install a cheap SSD alongside your 750GB HDD.

You could put a decent graphics card as you have a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot available.

You have a large amount of upgrade options available. I'd find a used Phenom II x6 1065T for ~$30-$40. Then add another 4GB stick of 1333 DDR3 for $25, add a 240GB SSD for $40 then get a used GTX 960 for $75 you would have a pretty snappy rig for ~$180.
