So I'm deciding on getting an SSD, but considering if I should get 500G or 1T mainly wanting to know what the average lifespan of a MX500 would be in a everyday use. I know it is 5 year warranty, just want to know how long does it usually last when used everyday.

Thanks.

1TB is rated for 1.8 million hour MTTF and 360TBW, so a very long time. My MX200 is on every day for hours and has 13TBW and is over two years old with a reasonable workload and about 800GB filled with user configured 100GB of overprovisioning to increase longevity and performance.

I've used a 128GB SSD for 7 or 8 years. It's perfectly fine. You really don't need to worry about life spans of modern storage.

That can happen if it's particularly full but shouldn't be permanent (ie, empty it out a bit and you should see original speed return)

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

In 5 years, you'll be getting new ones as 500gb will be considered "low capacity".

Im running a BX300 for about 2 years now (13tb writes) and its lifetime still rated "more than 1000 days".

Crucial is one of the 1st tier manufacture that makes their own chip (as Micron) just as good as Samsung.

I would say it would exceed the warranty lifetime, 5 years is a long warranty, in some places you can only get 3 years max.

And for the performance, just like any other flash storage, don't max out the capacity, leave it 20% unused to get the best performance and lifetime.

If you have a full drive, there will be some performance impact.

Flash storage needs some free space to swap the memory out of each individual cells, so that every cell can wear evenly.

Ryzen 5700g @ 4.4ghz all cores | Asrock B550M Steel Legend | 3060 | 2x 16gb Micron E 2666 @ 4200mhz cl16 | 500gb WD SN750 | 12 TB HDD | Deepcool Gammax 400 w/ 2 delta 4000rpm push pull | Antec Neo Eco Zen 500w

pretty much what I was gonna say, just get one large enough you can leave the extra space and you don't have to worry about it. (Note ALWAYS keep backups of important data in multiple locations, I for example have my PC, i also occasionally backup my work records to a flash drive and I have them sync up to my free Google Drive folder so I have them in multiple locations should anything happen)
