How hot does a asus rog strix 2080 ti get

Nordic

So, i'm planning on possibly buying a asus rog strix 2080ti, but how hot does it get when gaming for example assassin's creed odyssey and would a asus rog strix 2080 be cooler?

2080Ti is a 260W card, 2080 is a 225W card.

Due to thermodynamics, the 2080 will only put out 225W of heat versus the 260W of heat from the 2080Ti.

The Asus Strix cooler is essentially the best in the business, easily capable of dissipating the heat from both cards. As it is, while the 2080Ti will run hotter than the 2080, neither card will struggle with temperatures as long as your airflow is good enough.

There is also the matter that it will depend on your fan profile.  The defaults these days seem to go for quietest operation, so using something like Afterburner to tweak the profile can bring the temps down further than default.

I have the cheapest blower-style RTX 2080 from Asus and understandably they tried to keep the noise down, but that results in it hitting 80C+ on default.  As I have it in another room I tweaked the profile to bring it down to around 72C at the cost of noise.  With 100% fan speed I can get it down to about 65C overclocked but the pitch of the fan is seriously annoying, although not an issue you are likely to have on the superior coolers which tend to be barely audible even on 100%.

Of course the higher coolers also depend on your case ventilation being good so that the heat is ejected out of the case.  As my build is a relatively small ITX the blower was really the only way to achieve that, plus the wider coolers wouldn't fit anyway.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)

I have a Palit RTX 2080 Ti Gaming Pro OC, While it was in my Caselabs M8 case, temps was around 65C give or take a degree or two. I've since moved it and my i7 4770K rig to a Thermaltake View 31 case, I'm expecting temps to be about the same....
