Why do Remote Access programs make client-side desktop wallpaper black?

Go to solution Solved by porina,

Biggest reason is to try and save on data. Images are complex so take more data to send compared to a solid colour which compresses well. Have to say I never thought of the privacy aspect before.

I contacted help support for having a bad windows 10 update recently (unable to play youtube videos) via Microsoft Help Support Chat, they got in control of my laptop and fixes it themself via an applet downloaded from the Microsoft site. When she connected, my wallpaper went black, same with teamviewer, I got curious as to why these remote accessing programs turn the client system's wallpaper to black. My only guess is to avoid encounters of inappropriate photos.

I always thought it was because of the bitrate, feel free to correct/educate me also.

im pretty sure you can turn that off in the setting so it wont go black, on teamviwer atleast. my guess is just a privacy thing as some people have pics of family and what not as the background

in teamviewer you can turn the wallpaper back on.

I would be far more concerned that "Microsoft" took remote control of your PC than anything else because AFAIK Microsoft will never take control of your computer.

Are you sure it was actually Microsoft?

I certainly am for sure as I ran out of ideas trying to find out how to resolve my browsing issue that doesn't happen on my other devices. I reached out to them via Microsoft Help Support on the Search Button on the bottom left of my computer. Nothing to worry about.
