Update drivers before or after GPU upgrade?

Quick question:

I'm upgrading my gtx460 to a gtx770

I was wondering if I should install the 770 drivers before or after I switch the cards

Thanks!

update only after because a driver that would work with the 770 might not work with your 460 and cause you a lot of mess

Doesn't matter really, the driver suite for Geforce cards is basically the same for all GPUs. Just to be safe I'd do after.

Uninstall your gpu drivers before installing the 770. Then install brand new drivers after the 770 is installed.

I would probably uninstall drivers when still on 460 and install drivers when on 770

Always after so you can go back to the 440 if something goes wrong.

This is my opinion, it doesn't mean I'm right and is liable to change at any time. I may offend of which I apologize in advance.

I don't understand where you are coming from. What good would it do to uninstall the drivers first and then reinstall the new ones once the new gpu is in. How will this benefit you?

I think you should uninstall all your drivers before you swap the card, so nothing gets messed up. After you have the 770 in, install the new drivers. I'm pretty sure you need to have the new card in for the drivers to properly install.

Its hard to explain, but i can explain it like this: Things CAN go bad.

- Black screens.

The fix for that is to reinstall your os.

To avoid that just follow what i wrote earlier.

But if you still have the drivers for the old gpu installed you could just switch back and then try it your way. I believe it is safer, or is the black thing a permanent thing after switching?

It varies, i have tried and swapped gpus without doing nothing to the drivers. It worked out of the box. (from 770 to 660ti and back to 770 again).

The black screen happends in some cases. Im not to experienced with the whole thing though. Just heard many horror stories about this black screen problem.

So i cant realy tell, this probably have alot to do with kinda motherboard and other components set up together. Some it works some it dont.

I don't think you have to but I think it would be best to uninstall your graphics drivers and software related to it (nvidia software) and just install your updated drivers after you have installed your GTX 770 to make sure that it detects it properly. Hope you will enjoy your new gpu! :)
