I'm also on the PCbuild subreddit and there's a guy who posted asking for help and I gave a little advice which launched into him messaging me with lots of questions about budget stuff. He keeps finding these crazy low price builds online that somehow run pubg and fortnite at decent fps. I just would like to know, would it be better to go with these lists he's found, or the one I made him? I'll link all of them

My list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/pb6Wjy

$300 YouTube build: https://youtu.be/ym-m6Xiym-m6XisT5

$200 youtube build: https://youtu.be/3wlJ8VBZg4Q

He told me he has $1.3k USD but he wants to use as little as possible

I tried coaxing him into an RX 580 and r5 2600 but no luck..

Well, I would go with  a 2x4GB kit of RAM, and you also need a PSU, but overall I'd take the more expensive build. The Price to performance ratio graph reaches it's peak somewhere between $600-$1000 USD, so the closer you are to that, the better your computer will be, as compared to price.

My Build, v2.1 --- CPU: i7-8700K @ 5.2GHz/1.288v || MoBo: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E Gaming || RAM: 4x4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 2666 14-14-14-33 || Cooler: Custom Loop || GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC Black, on water || PSU: EVGA G2 850W || Case: Corsair 450D || SSD: 850 Evo 250GB, Intel 660p 2TB || Storage: WD Blue 2TB || G502 & Glorious PCGR Fully Custom 80% Keyboard || MX34VQ, PG278Q, PB278Q

Audio --- Headphones: Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX || Amp: Schiit Audio Magni 3 || DAC: Schiit Audio Modi 3 || Mic: Blue Yeti

[Under Construction]

My Truck --- 2002 F-350 7.3 Powerstroke || 6-speed

My Car --- 2006 Mustang GT || 5-speed || BBK LTs, O/R X, MBRP Cat-back || BBK Lowering Springs, LCAs || 2007 GT500 wheels w/ 245s/285s

The Experiment --- CPU: i5-3570K @ 4.0 GHz || MoBo: Asus P8Z77-V LK || RAM: 16GB Corsair 1600 4x4 || Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Evo || GPUs: Asus GTX 750 Ti, || PSU: Corsair TX750M Gold || Case: Thermaltake Core G21 TG || SSD: 840 Pro 128GB || HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB

R.I.P. Asus X99-A motherboard, April 2016 - October 2018, may you rest in peace. 5820K, if I ever buy you a new board, it'll be a good one.

He has some EVGA PSU that doesn't have a model number. Iooked into it and it doesn't seem to be a bomb psu. I'll change to the 2x4gb, I must've had a brain fart and forgotten about dual channel

/shrug If it burns his house down or kills his computer, it's on him. If he's so set on building a $200 PC, just tell him to do it lol. Some people can't afford an expensive computer.

he has the money but doesn't want to spend too much of it which is understandable but he was going so budget, he went back to ddr3 stuff and $30 CPUs which didn't seem like the best idea. He just saw good for and cheap prices

I mean Linus has done plenty of budget build logs (scrapyard wars not counting), I think you can get great performance for quite cheap, Especially since anything is better than nothing (also, DDR3 isn't that old, Haswell came out only 7 years ago).

I'm not the final decider. It took me a lot to reason with the kid just to get him to add an SSD. He's the one who wanted cheap and I gave him cheap. I guess he relied on me a lot but if something that's normally expensive is really cheap there's a catch. If something goes wrong, well, he should know

true true. My main rig is ddr3. Honestly I wanted to get this over with, this was a lot of me explaining things to him since he knows pretty much nothing about PC's besides that they run programs. He did it over Reddit dm's which made it tough too. I think he's a console gamer who wanted to pay the same price as an xbox/PS4 for a pc

Lol. Not surprised. And yeah, I've had a few of those here on the forum. Some being people who got banned then made another account and asked the same question. ?‍♂️
