DVI can carry up to two links. The cable with pins missing only carries one, and is comparable to HDMI (although later versions of HDMI can carry more information over a single link). You'd have to look up standards, but 1080p60 is more than fine for a single link, but I'm not sure what the limit is above that. I know my 144 Hz 1080p monitor requires a dual link DVI cable.

Guys.................

It is a DVI to VGA cable.

There is no "higher res and frame rates" for DVI-A.

The other pins are only for digital connections.

Hi guys! first of all sorry if i posted in wrong section, i didnt know where to post. I have just one question. today i bought new VGA-DVI cable from a person. i just now noticed that my old one has far more pins than this one. is this a cheap knock off? i wanted to ask you guys before calling the seller. Take a look at pics. white one is a new one.

The other pins are useless because VGA is analogue so there is no need for the digital pins to be there.

Edit: well spotted by @Enderman didn't notice the one with pins missing is an analog cable. Hadn't come across that one before. Use case will be limited.

Agreed. I mistook it for DVI-I but didn't edit last post quick enough. Hadn't come across such a cable before.

soo im good to go?

As now corrected, it is analog only cable, so if you wanted a digital cable get it replaced.

Yeah, so since VGA is only using analogue they saved cost by not putting in the other useless pins.
