Help Overclocking a 8086k

Hey there I am quite new to over clocking and would like some help on how to overclock a 8086k properly I have dabbled in it before but have never gave it a proper go . I have a custom waterloop which consists on a Ek suppremacy water block a 420mm Ek radiator and 3 noctua industrial fans my mother board is a asus prime. I dont really want to use the ez tuning setting because im worried about the board pushing to much voltage and have cooling problems any help will be greatly appreciated.

It's pretty much the same as any other CPU. Raise clocks and stress test, if it's not stable increase voltage. Repeat until it's too hot or requires too much voltage to go farther and then stress test for a couple hours to ensure stability.

I use 1.325v at 5.1ghz max LLC (level 8 )

Your cooling is fine. Just google OC results and then set your CPU ratio to 5ghz and fiddle with voltage

AFAIK, max LLC isn't recomended unless you're going balls to the wall with your OC, it overshoots the voltage too much. I would stick to the LLC level that keeps your actual voltage the closest to your set voltage, or level 7 maximum. My 2600k runs at level 3 out of 5 and already overshoots voltage and I have to set negative voltage offset.

thats the whole idea, use lower base voltage and max LLC, there is no way 1.325 will hold 5.1ghz

That's not how it works, LLC is not supposed to compensate for the lack of voltage, but rather the voltage drop (vdroop) when the current drawn increases. It doesn't matter if you set 1.325v thinking it's a low voltage if you're actually running at like 1.38v because of LLC. You should rather, in this example, run 1.38v with a lower LLC that doesn't over or undershoots the set voltage. Said that, you might need to go a bit over the "ideal LLC" if the CPU is not stable, like in my case, my 2500k would run at 2/5 perfectly, my 2600k doesn't like 2/5 and runs at 3/5 with negative voltage offset to compensate for the small overshoot.

LLC applies more voltage based on load.

 

You can use that to your advantage and set a lower base voltage that isn't stable actually stable for the core under load but it doesn't matter because its more than enough voltage for idle. Its simply a way of using less core voltage when you don't need it while keeping a fixed all core overclock. Yes im aware its not the intended purpose to overshoot your vcore, that doesn't mean you cant do it.

Fair enough. Not sure if this is better for your CPU than just having higher idle voltage and lower LLC though. I find not fixing the clock a better solution for this, my 2600k uses turbo normally, usually running at around 1v in low load, from the 1.35v full load. I don't really like the idea nor see purpose in running fix clock, unless it's not stable with turbo.

A good way to start is to follow a guide done by a pro. Since a i7 8086k is basically a binned i7 8700k an i7 8700k guide will do.

 

I used guides by der8auer since he usually uses ASUS Maximus Hero boards.

 

I run a very conservative overclock on my i7 8086k with 5ghz on all cores with a noctua nh-d15 using 2 fans. This keeps idle temps close to stock. 

 

Here is what it looks like.

 

With your cooling solution you should stay in the low 30s, idle at 5.1ghz.
