The case power connectors should be labeled, and the motherboard should also have labeling on it to indicate which ones go where.

I'm using a new case

Motherboard standoffs are inexpensive for a small bag of them off of eBay or Amazon, such as these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Motherboard-Brass-Standoff-Hexagonal-Spacer/dp/B00MJUA2BQ/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1540943442&sr=8-8&keywords=Motherboard+standoffs

Whilst you wait for them to ship, this video demonstrates how to install risers and the motherboard:

I hope this helps!

Apologies for my previous reply, I only just noticed you post this reply ^

Could you provide the motherboard's model number? (If you aren't sure, a picture of the motherboard should do if you have one)

Thank you the case I'm using right now has standoffs and I've identified which pins on the motherboard are for power it posts when I bridge it manually but when I try plugging in the power button in different configurations the most I get is the standby light coming on however the button won't work still

I don't have the model number since Intel decided not to label the motherboard for whatever reason lol but I do have this diagram

If I knew what each individual pin and wire was for I could just splice the plug from the original case since it was designed for this motherboard and fits perfectly I know it sounds like a bad idea but the current plug has a hole blocked preventing me from trying every possible configuration simply due to placement

Thank you for providing that :D

According to that diagram, your computer is a Lenovo H50-50. If I am not mistaken that diagram and the other images leads me to believe your motherboard looks something like this:

Image result for h50-50

I did a lot of digging and found this: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkCentre-A-E-M-S-Series/ThinkCentre-front-panel-connector-power-audio-amp-USB-pinout/td-p/190651 Although its a bit tricky to understand. There is also this you can have a look at: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Desktop-Towers/H330-CIH61C-motherboard-front-panel-connections/m-p/2231376

I hope this helps and good luck :)

It looks like the case you are using was meant for a specific motherboard, most cases would split up the connectors for power, reset HDD activity LED and Power LED.  You will probably have to remove the connector from the case wiring and re configure it.

This is an GENERAL example for an Intel motherboard however it is not necessarily the same.

9-pin chassis front panel header

This is what is standard with most new cases

Wow okay so it turns out the problem was that the power connector on this case is so old that they wired it in series so the led had to be plugged in for the button to work so the physical way it's plugged in now is literally upside down and backwards and hanging over the edge so it's only on half the pins it had to be done this way bc one side of the plug had three wires and the other had four and I needed the side with 4 bc I needed the led signal and ground as well as power signal and ground so I had to completely reverse the direction the plug was facing I thought I was stupid but actually this problem just had a ridiculous solution lol
