Giving the battlebox a new look! (Case swap, Lian Li O11D)

I've kind of sponaiously ordered a new case today. So here's a short build log!

 

Here's how it sits right now. All the major components are coming with me to the new case. Only the R6 and it's fans will be sold. Still waiting for the new case to arrive, I opted for the Lian Li O11 Dynamic in white.

For radiator placement, I want it up top like I have now, and use it as exhaust. The cooler is big enough that I don't get much difference when I mount it as an intake anyways, yes I tried. (OC'ed 8086k with stock TIM) Intake is gonna be 3 fans on the side and the bottom will be left empty. I hope this won't starve the GPU for air if I keep it mounted horizontally. The 2080 ROG Strix is kind of a fat card. I suspect it might hit the side panel of the case. becuase of this I might get a vertical GPU mount from Lian Li and mount it that way instead.

 

Still haven't decided on fans. I think the Corsair RGB fans look way better than most others, and I can get them at work so it's easy access and a good price. My main choice here is 6x SP120 fans. I am also looking at the LL and ML series fans.

Case swaps are great! I have swapped cases in my main system nearly every 8 months for the past 3 years haha. It's a cheap way to satisfy the urge to build a new system and allows for a whole new aesthetic to a build.

Definitely! I love the R6 to death, but it can be a bit starving for airflow and bland to look at. But goddamn what a great case to build in.

I like zip-tying Intel stock coolers on graphics cards.

Also, go with ML fans (or LL) they are fantastic despite the cost. My main build is fully equipped with ML120 and ML140 fans and not only are they super quite they are also well optimized for airflow and static pressure. I actually prefer them over Noctua NF fans (my server is fully equipped with Noctua fans), not sure if it's due to the hard drive bays at the front of my case but I think the ML fans are quieter. And for the same price you can get LED fans versus ugly puke brown fans, and to get the black chromax version (what I opted for) you pay even more, so they really aren't worth the price premium in my opinion.

The LL and ML fans look great, but they are 30% more expensive than the SP120 fans here. I have one LL140 that I got randomly from a friend once. That won't fit my new case though.

Have any experience with the SP120 fans?

Yeah man, I think that out of all the brands of cases I have owned (Thermaltake, NZXT, Phanteks, and Corsair) Fractal Design has the easiest/best cases to work in. I recently got the Meshify C TG and it is hands down my favorite ATX case.

I did consider that case too. But having the radator in the front doesn't really look that good compared to having it in the top.

Yeah, it's not great for rads beyond 280mm. And I agree I dislike the front mounting orientation. I recently opted for a big air cooler so this case is perfect. I love how compact it is for an ATX case, and I'm beyond anal when it comes to airflow and dust filtration and the Meshify C is probably one of the best cases in the market in that aspect.

I did consider the O11 Air as well, but it's only in black and I wanted a white case as I've never had that before.

I like zip-tying Intel stock coolers on graphics cards.

I only have owned the old AF and SP fans that had the LED's resemblance of a certain oppressive regime from the mid 20th century. They were 3-pin fans and I found them quite loud even with voltage regulation. So I can't say how the new ones perform but I'm sure that with PWM control now you can get them spinning slower so they wouldn't be awful.

I agree, keep with your aesthetic, the O11 Dynamic in white looks hella fresh. The Meshify C TG also comes in white now and in the mATX form factor which is just beyond great haha. I don't plan on swapping from this case anytime soon.

Fans are ordered through work. I went with 6 LL120 fans, this is gonna look sick.

These things should look good in the O11, I'm only a little unsure how to mount the fans now. The back of the fans doesn't look nearky as good as the front, so I might rock bottom intake and side exhaust.
