Hey guys, ik this is prolly a stupid question but here goes. For abt USD240 more, i can get a 780Ti. Is it worth it over a 290? Considering the 240 can buy me block and plate.

Gigabyte 780Ti SGD850

Gigabyte 290 SGD550

Leadtek 780 SGD690(a gigabyte one should be abt 730'ish )

I use a 1200p panel but should get a Korean ips in a year.

I would go for a 780ti. Any non reference card from ASUS, EVGA, MSI, or GIGABYTE.

IMO, no, just get a 290

^

It depends on your mindset. I wouldn't get the 780 Ti either since the 290 is a better value and isn't that much worse.

The thing I'm tempted is that the Ti where I am is 999. And I hate to pass up an amazing deal at 850SGD. Also idk how to overclock and bios flash a 290 like ik with a 780/770 etc.

:x rawr!!!

...save up for something better than a Korean display.

How often do you upgrade, and do you intend to watercool it?

The 290 is pretty quick in regards to the 780ti.

If it's at least a year before you get the monitor, how close would you be at that time to replacing the card? Given it'd be 2 generations old at that point.

A 290 isn't that much worse. Tough call. The 780 ti would probably be more powerful in the long run, but if you're OC'ing you could get a Ti that doesn't overclock well, or a 290 that overclocks extremely well.

Here's a comparison of the two reference cards since you didn't mention particular models of the Gigabyte cards.

@Focux, you should probably just go with which you feel drawn to, you have the money and you're going to get some bias opinions on which one you should go for, so just go with what you're happy with. To help you out I will list some benchmarks from some very good sites that I use often.

AnandTech: http://anandtech.com/bench/product/1068?vs=1072

GPU Boss: http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R9-290-vs-GeForce-GTX-780-Ti

I hope this helps.

Note to everyone else:

Please don't start chucking hateful comments at me about bias opinions because it's true, everyone has a bias opinion towards something, even myself.

@Focux, What are your primary uses for choosing either GPU?

Haha, well you obviously enjoy yourself. So you use Sony Vegas Pro too? Several friends of mine have usually recommended NVIDIA GPUs for their CUDA performance because Vegas Pro started supporting CUDA for several years before it started supporting OpenCL for AMD GPUs. But that's not a bias opinion, it's just fact, so you may want to consider that before you make your purchase.

Take asic quality with a grain of salt though. Eve gpu-z doesn't know what to make of it; Notice on the asic quality page, it has an asterisk with the fine print "additional input based on your findings is welcome". But generally, a low asic quality is better for overclocking on water

You mean LN2..? O.o

No, water too. GPU's can stay at 75-80c all day. And unless doing some insane, voltages like 1.5-1.6, you'd have a tough time to get your gpu to reach 75c on water as long as you have more than a 360 rad. And even at 1.6, you'd probably fry caps and vrms before reaching 75c.

I think 1.6 is insane.1.5 is sufficient for 1400 imo. Vdroop llc etc.
