A hardware solution for multitasking between computers

So the other day I got a call from my friend wanting a solution for multitasking between his 2 laptops. Being a nerd and a long time LTT viewer, I instantly responded with Synergy. it works really great and they're sponsoring LTT so I can get discount codes for him. This would have worked great but one of the laptops was from work so the Synergy application wouldn't install or be immediately blocked after installation. So the only thing left is hardware. Is there any hardware you would suggest and how to configure it. Thanks in advance ?

I thought the same but hoped for something more seamless. KVM switches have buttons to switch the computer you're controlling rather than the one computer feel (one pc multiple monitors, figured it out myself), they're bulky, they have limited video resolutions, ports (amount and speed wise). Probably no other option (that's feels the same like with the password reset key, all we have is a link to an amazon search) ... I'll still wait for someone else though.

With no ability to install software you're going to be stuck with switchers like kvm switches.

you might look into whatever system is used in rack servers to switch between different machines in a single rack. I have no idea what system that is but I think it's just a glorified kvm
