How to return to previous Kernel in Ubuntu

I have installed a new kernel however it made my Steam games not work. To try to return to the previous one, I went into the boot menu, went onto advanced options then selected the previous version. I have been stuck on t a screen that says Ubuntu, and 2 white lights lot up for at least 3 hours now.  What have I done wrong?

Your graphics driver probably wasn't rebuilt correctly...

Some helpful thing to tell us if you still need help

uname -a; glxinfo ¡ grep OpenGL

My fault, 'uname -a ; glxinfo | grep OpenGL'

Nvidia or AMD?  Can you run glxgears?

Running synchronized to the vertical refresh.  The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
303 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.507 FPS
300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.000 FPS
300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.000 FPS
300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.998 FPS
300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.999 FPS
300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.999 FPS
300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.000 FPS
300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.998 FPS
301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.000 FPS
301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.000 FPS

Appears fine...  does steam crash at launch or game start?  Can you give any debug log or start it from terminal & post the output

It's different for each game.  CS GO shows a black screen for 10 seconds then closes. Rocket League has no textures and runs at 10fps. I have reinstalled the games already and it didn't help

It wouldn't be the game, since glxgears runs, your graphics drivers appear to be working, they're from the ppa right?  You can reinstall the newest nvidia driver
