Go for the 6300. It's cheaper and has better performance. You could go for a cheaper and more economical case, just to save money. Other than that, it doesn't look too bad.

Case is a personal option, but the NZXT Source 210 is a great value option. Also FX-6300 is so much better than the Fx-6100

I was considering the Athlon II 750K but the upgrade path isn't as high up.

People rarely upgrade just their cpu. By the time one is generally ready to get a new cpu the tech and price have moved to the point where it usually makes more sense to get a new motherboard as well.
